Dr. Tereso A. Abella, CLSU President, was interviewed last March 6 by the Film Armada Inc. crew for the new show which will air in GMA 7 with Ms. Kris Aquino as program host.
The CLSU Tilapia Ice Cream with brand name “Daerry’s” will be featured in the program as one of the must-see products/technologies not only in CLSU but also in the Province of Nueva Ecija.
Dr. Abella was a major proponent of the project. He was the one who broached the idea of developing tilapia ice cream when he was the VP for Academic Affairs of CLSU and director of the Freshwater Aquaculture Center (FAC).
Since its development as a novelty product few years ago, the CLSU Tilapia Ice Cream has made big waves not only nationally but also internationally.
In May 2016, it was awarded the Salon International de L’Agroalimentaire (SIAL) Innovation (ASEAN) Gold Award. A jury composed of independent experts in food innovation selected the CLSU Tilapia Ice Cream for the award out of 350 exhibitors from 25 countries which exhibited their products at the World Trade Center.
Daerry’s Tilapia Ice Cream was showcased last year in all SIAL events around the world, to wit: New York in June; Paris in October which was attended by Asst. Prof. Dana G. Vera Cruz who leads the Tilapia Ice Cream Research and Development Team; Jakarta in November; and Abu Dhabi in December.
According to Asst. Prof. Vera Cruz, it will also be showcased in Canada, and in China in May 2017.
