Dr. Norman Ramos, CEO of LFUGC, shakes hands with Dr. Tereso A. Abella, CLSU President, after the ribbon cutting ceremony. With them are Engr. Terence S. Uygongco, Vice President for Trade and Feeds Division; Dr. Ernesto A. Martin, Dean, College of Agriculture; and Dr Melissa E. Agulto, Vice President for Academic Affairs.
A Swine Research Facility worth P8.5-M was donated by the La Filipina Uy Gongco (LFUGC) to the Central Luzon State University. It was turned over to CLSU last June 22.
A demonstration of a working Private Public Partnership, the research facility is a pig growing-finishing farm that can accommodate 144 hogs. It is composed of two buildings with a total of 36 pens with 4 pigs per pen. According to Dr. Ernesto A. Martin, dean, College of Agriculture, it is purposely designed for conducting scientific feeding trials/experiments. It has also an office and storage room and is provided with equipment such as feeders, waterers, and water tank, and enclosed with a fence.
The research center will serve as a venue for conducting feeding trials by the Philippine Foremost Milling Corporation (PFMC) which is owned by the LFUGC, and other industry partners.
Dr. Tereso A. Abella, CLSU president, extended his gratitude and appreciation to LFGC for its generosity and for the research collaboration with CLSU for the advancement of the swine industry.
The LFUGC delegation who graced the turnover ceremony was headed by Engr. Terence S. Uygongco, Vice President for Trade and Feeds Division. The blessing of the two buildings was done by Fr. Jerry Santos, CEO of the Don Bosco Vocational Training Academy in San Jose City.
The La Filipina Uy Gongco Swine Research Facility at CLSU is considered as a memorable edifice that will provide another lasting legacy for its faculty and students as well as the swine industry stakeholders. Moreover, it is also seen to address the Outcome Based Education (OBE) strategy which the Commission on Higher Education is presently recommending to Higher Educational Institutions such as CLSU.
