Central Luzon State University received the 2016 Outstanding Book Award from the Department of Science and technology - National Academy of Science and Technology for the publication entitled Mineral Profile of Forages and its Influence on Goat Nutrition authored by Dr. Edgar A. Orden, Dr. Emilio M. Cruz, Dr. Maria Excelsis M. Orden and Dr. Tsutumo Fujihara.
The award was given during the 2016 Annual Recognition of the National Academy of Science and Technology on July 14, 2016 at Manila Hotel, Manila.
The book was published by Central Luzon State University and Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Agricultural Research in 2015.
“This book is useful for researchers and development workers whose primary objective is to improve the nutritional status of goat, thus increasing its productivity. It will be helpful for goat raisers as it provides alternative strategies to improve the mineral levels of animals and more importantly for students who are taking up animal science or any related course as it serves as a good reference material in increasing their knowledge and be abreast of what are the latest technology in raising goats,” Orden said.
Dr. Edgar A. Orden is the Vice President for Business Affairs and Director of the Small Ruminants Center. Dr. Emilio M. Cruz was the former Vice President for Research, Extension and Training and former Director of the Small Ruminants Center. Dr. Maria Excelsis M. Orden is the Director for Research, while Dr. Fujihara is a consultant of the Philippine Carabao Center and a retired professor of Shimane University, Japan.
The DOST-NAST Outstanding Book Award is given annually for such books and/or monograph published in Philippines or elsewhere by Filipino authors or co-authors within five years preceding the award.
Plaques of recognition was awarded to the author/s of books and/or monographs adjudged to be outstanding in the fields of: Agricultural Sciences; Biological Sciences; Chemical, Mathematical and Physical Sciences; Engineering Sciences and Technology; Health Sciences; and Social Sciences.
Books and/or monographs were judged for their quality and originality of content, contribution to science and technology, clarity of presentation, and thoroughness of documentation.
