It’s another gold medal for the Philippines as decathlete Aries Toledo placed first in Men’s Decathlon at the 29th Southeast Asian Games, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Aug. 19-30.
Toledo, a Novo Ecijano and student of Central Luzon State University, garnered 7433 points after ten events under his category.
With his win, he defeated Asian champion Suttisak Singkon (7411 points) of Thailand who placed second, and Vietnam’s Bui Van Su (6737 points) who placed third.
It was a close fight for both Toledo and Singkon where the latter managed to close the gap by leading in the Pole Vault and Javelin events.
The Philippine bet, however, managed to recover from a then nine-point deficiency as he placed first in the 1500M event of the category.
Toledo’s win maintains the Philippines’ pace in the medal ranking of the competition, securing the country’s 9th gold.
