One unit of a multi-tilling machine/cultivator worth Php184,975.00 was donated by the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office III last December 2018. This will be used at the experiment and production areas of the CLSU Research Office in its legumes and high value crops production

The machine was requested in connection with the Office’s target to produce higher quality seeds of soybean and other crops. The donation was covered by a memorandum of agreement signed by DA RFO III Regional Executive Director Roy M. Abaya and CLSU President Tereso A. Abella. It is premised on the relevant functions of both parties to support the high value crops development program of the government, and to promote among researchers the “attainment of sustainable productivity and profitable farming”.

The Research Office is the producer and supplier of quality CLSOY seeds in the region. Whereas, DA RFO3 implements soybean program in the region, and supports farmers by providing them quality CLSOY seeds. Over the years, however, the Research Office lacks seeds to meet its and DARFO3’s requirement due to lack of farm equipment. The multi-purpose cultivator from DARFO3 hopes to solve this problem, so the two agencies can response further to the soybean industry’s need. This donation was made possible with the support of the Head, High Value Crops Program DARFO3, Mr. Fernando Lorenzo, a CLSU Alumnus, BSAgriculture 1980.

In her acknowledgment letter, Research Office Director Maria Excelsis M. Orden expressed appreciation and recognition of the importance of the machine to facilitate improvement in quality and quantity of yields from agricultural crops. She said: “We will be able to respond better to farmers’ needs for quality soybean seeds.”
