University of Georgia Professor Delivers a Lecture to CAg Faculty and Staff
Dr. Robert Kemerait Jr., a Plant Pathology professor from the University of Georgia, USA, visited the College of Agriculture (CAg) on June 29, 2022, to deliver a lecture about the “Importance of Disease and Nematode Management in These Very Uncertain Times”.
It was attended by the CAg faculty, while students joined via Zoom. The event was spearheaded by the Department of Crop Protection headed by Prof. Celynne O. Padilla.
Dr. Kemerait emphasized the effects of climate change which immensely affects crop productivity. He also said that climate change allows more spread of plant pathogens.
“We cannot change the uncertainties of the climate but we can anticipate to protect crops for a higher yield,” Dr. Kemerait said during his lecture.
The lecture posed a big challenge to the College to produce possible solutions to the problems regarding plant pathogens that will help in achieving the sustainable development goals, particularly the zero hunger.
Moreover, Dr. Kemerait greatly expressed his interest in a possible collaboration and extension work with Central Luzon State University.
