As a Higher Education Institution that supports and advocates peace education, University President Edgar A. Orden together with the CLSU NSTP faculty and Student Regent Mr. Sherren Punzalan attended the 1st National Peace Convention held on January 25, 2022, at Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City.

Bound with the theme “Peace Builds One Nation, One Future: Peace is Here,” the event was attended by around 1,800 participants composed of university presidents, educators, lawmakers, non-government organizations, religious leaders, media, youth and women leaders, and civil society organizations.

During the event, five simultaneous parallel sessions were conducted to discuss Policy-making for the Realization of Peace in the Philippines, Institutionalizing Peace Education, the Role of the Media in the Promotion of Peace, the Significance of Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue in the Achievement of Peace, and Role of Women as Partners for Sustainable Peace.

The convention aims to establish a roadmap toward the attainment of national unity through peace consonance. Also, a draft of the resolution for the possible declaration of National Peace Day every 24th of January which will be known as National Truce Day was presented and acknowledged.

The event was organized and spearheaded by the Volunteer Individuals for Peace (VIP), a local peace organization chaired by Dr. Ronald Adamat, Commissioner of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). It was an international event joined by a South Korea-based NGO, Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) chaired by Lee Man-hee, a peace advocate and war veteran from South Korea.

CLSU is the pioneering SUC to build a marker for peace located in front of the University Library that symbolizes the university’s commitment to nurturing and sustaining a culture of peace through advocating inclusivity and diversity leading to respect for individual differences in terms of race, religion, culture, and personal beliefs.
