Former CLSU Prof. Delivers Special Lecture on Data Science Education

The Department of Statics under the College of Science organized a statistics colloquium entitled “Data and Beyond: An Overview of Data Science Education in Canada” with Dr. Zenaida F. Mateo as lecturer at the R&E Amphitheater on November 21, 2023.
Dr. Mateo is a former CLSU professor and a current Professor in the Statistics Department at University of Manitoba in Canada. Dr. Mateo provided an introduction to the field of data science while highlighting the significant opportunities available in this emerging field. Data science according to her combines mathematics, statistics, and computer science to collect, analyze, visualize, and interpret data making the it a vital and in demand field of expertise.
The event was flocked by senior high school and BS Statistics students as well as the faculty members of the statistics department who expressed their appreciation and interest during the open forum right after the special lecture.
