The Philippine-Sino Center for Agricultural Technology (PhilSCAT) successfully concluded its 4-day training workshop on “Retooling on AxB and AxR Seed Production” from August 29 to September 1, 2023 at the R.C. Undan Hall.

The training was organized by Dr. Jerwin R. Undan, Head, Hybrid Rice Technology Division (HRTD), and Dr. Marvin M. Cinense, PhilSCAT Director and participated in by HRTD technical staff and farm laborers to equip them on the policy and guidelines of AxB and AxR seed production.

Lectures on topics including hybrid rice seed production technology, integrated pest management, postharvest activities, and AxB and AxR seed production were provided by DA-ATI and PhilSCAT experts. Moreover, a 2-day field exposure was conducted to allow the participants to observe and perform roguing as one of the crucial activities in producing hybrid rice seeds as their hands-on experience on its proper implementation.

The event was also attended by Ms. Lily de la Cruz, Agriculturist II of the Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Center 3 (DA-ATI RTC 3) and Ms. Josephine A. Reyes, Chief of the Bureau of Plant Industry-National Seed Quality Control Services (BPI-NSQCS) Region 3, Nueva Ecija.
