University Research Program Office (URPO)

Overview

The URPO is one of the core offices under the R&E Program. It is composed of the different specialized centers working on R&D on crops, fisheries, small ruminants, carabao, land and water resources, and renewable energy to develop dynamic and innovative R&D for inclusive growth and sustainable development of the Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources (AANR) Sector. URPO plays a major role in helping CLSU attain its goal of being a world-class national university for S&T in agriculture and allied fields.

Specialized Centers

The CREaTe is part of the comprehensive Philippines Energy Program, the National Renewable Energy (REP). It was formulated to help ensure the promotion and commercialization of renewable energy resources and technologies in the country.

The PhilSCAT is primarily geared towards implementing the Technical Cooperation Project (TCP) with the goal to produce high-yielding and quality hybrid rice varieties in the Philippines by improving its existing agricultural research, production and promotion competencies through the China-Philippine cooperation, and utilization of PhilSCAT-bred varieties and technologies. Thereby allowing Filipino farmers to accelerate rice sufficiency and achieve prosperity through a mechanized hybrid rice farming system.

The PreDiCt provides the leadership and direction towards the rational utilization of the finite land and groundwater and surface water resources through extensive research, human resource development, and provision of training and technical assistance.

The SRC serves as the primary facility in developing, disseminating, and commercializing technologies relevant to the socio-political well-being, technical and economic needs, environmental concerns and cultural demands of its clientele. The Center also develops technologies, produce quality stocks and promotes the goat and sheep industry in the country.

The RM-CARES serves as a continuing source of appropriate technologies information on sustainable environment and agricultural resources management that contributes to the attainment of a viable and sustainable agro-industry of the communities it serves.

The FAC is a multi-disciplinary research unit that is responsible for aquaculture and fisheries research and development. It is mandated to contribute to livelihood enhancement and shall achieve a positive impact towards the attainment of improved production and management of the country’s inland fisheries resources.

The CLSU Nanotechnology R&D Facility promotes intensive study, further development, and innovations on a product that will be useful for everyone using nanotechnology. It is one of the latest state-of-the-art facilities on the campus catering to nanotechnology research specifically focused on agri-fisheries, post-harvest research, and sustainable growth and development.

The ICCEM provides environmental education and training to professionals for a career in environmental studies, conducts research on environmental issues and concerns, offers extension services through the dissemination of environmental information for public understanding and awareness, and spearheads environmental management and conservation activities in the campus and immediate environs.

The PCC at CLSU is mandated to help improve the general well-being of rural farming communities through carabao genetic improvement, technology development and dissemination, and establishment of carabao-based enterprise thus ensuring higher income and better nutrition.

The CTMRD, first established as a mushroom technology laboratory, is actively engaged in research, extension and training on mushroom science and technology. It metamorphosed into a training and research center that caters to the technical needs of the academe and the industry and is firmly anchored on the need to generate livelihood to ensure food security in the countryside while protecting the environment.

CRRDC’s thrust is to develop high-yielding grains, legumes, and vegetables, make quality seeds available to target clients, and develop technologies to increase crop productivity and farmers’ profit. The Program focuses on plant breeding, germplasm collection and characterization, cultural management, farm resources use, harvest, and postharvest to generate appropriate technologies to improve farm efficiency. It also develops food products for value-adding and analyzes the socio-economic and communication dimensions to build rural-based enterprises.

The Central Luzon Agriculture, Aquatic and Resources Research and Development Consortium (CLAARRDEC) is a conglomeration of 26 agencies and institutions within Central Luzon conducting or promoting research and development in agriculture, forestry and natural resources which have been grouped to work together along specific objectives, share expertise and resources and complement each other to push further the horizon of R&D in the region.

The Socio-Economic Research Center and Data Analytics Center (SERDAC) is a facility that deals with strengthening the socio-economic research in the University, and other regions in Luzon through enhancing the technology that will help its result to be more accurate and desirable.
