The Central Luzon State University (CLSU) reached the finals in one of the eight categories in the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia 2022. It entered the shortlisted universities for the “Technological or Digital Innovation of the Year Category,” announced on March 31, 2022, as the only Philippine higher education institution (HEI) claiming an exceptional spot in the said award. The CLSU entry was dubbed “Nanogold ASF Test Kits: Bringing Life to an Ailing Swine Industry” where it highlighted the development of the ASFv nanogold biosensor rapid test kit for ASF (African Swine Fever) detection. The kit provides timely and low-cost screening tests for the dreaded ASF in Central Luzon, Philippines which resulted in the recovery and performance of the country's swine industry. The government supported the project and allocated 1.5 million USD for mass production and distribution of test kits. The nominees are Dr. Edgar A. Orden, University President, and Dr. Clarissa Yvonne J. Domingo, faculty researcher from the College of Veterinary Science and Medicine together with the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Science and Technology. Along with CLSU under the said category are as follows: Burapha University (Thailand) Central Luzon State University (Philippines) Chitkara University (India) Chulalongkorn University (Thailand) University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong) Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) (Malaysia) National University of Singapore (Singapore) Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) (Malaysia) This milestone is a collective effort of the CLSU community. To celebrate the very best in Asian higher education, the winners of THE Awards Asia 2022 will be announced officially on May 31, 2022, at the Asia Universities Summit to be held in Japan. Widely known as the ‘Oscars of higher education,' THE Awards Asia is a fixture in the UK Higher Education calendar for 14 years before they took this prestigious event overseas for the first time in 2019. It aims to recognize exceptional leadership and performance among Asian HEIs. CLSU, on an important note, unceasingly creates an effort to achieve its vision by actively engaging in different international recognition and awards like its recent placement in the QS World Ranking: Asia at 601+, placed 12th in AD Scientific Index 2022 among 65 universities, and ranked 18th on the webometrics Asia ranking of 287 universities.
