CLSU, Tamagawa University Hold BaCaDM-SATREPS International Symposium

The Banana and Cacao Diseases Management or the (BaCaDM) Project, a 5-year jointly collaborative project by the Central Luzon State University, Philippines, and Tamagawa University, Japan, successfully conducted the BaCaDM–SATREPS International Symposium on March 4, 2026, at Tamagawa University in Japan. The event was spearheaded by the Chief Investigator of the project, Dr. Kyoko Watanabe, and co-organized by the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) team headed by University President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella. Following a series of preparatory meetings among project partners, the symposium was successfully organized as part of the BaCaDM Project initiatives to strengthen collaboration and knowledge exchange among stakeholders working on banana and cacao disease management. The symposium featured four sessions that focused on various topics related to the management of banana and cacao diseases. These sessions served as a platform for researchers, experts, and stakeholders to share knowledge, experiences, and developments related to plant disease management. The event was attended by officials and representatives from various sectors and partner institutions. Among the distinguished guests was the Honorable Mylene J. Garcia-Albano, Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Japan. Representatives from several partner institutions were also present, including the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Plant Industry in the Philippines; the Strategic Planning and Development Center (NARO); the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations; General Incorporated Association MJ-STeP; Unifrutti Japan Co., Ltd.; ABS Compliance Support Center; and the National Museum of Nature and Science. Also present were delegates from Japanese academic institutions, including Shizuoka University, Yokohama University, and Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. 5 IT Students Join Int’l Technology Programs in Indonesia and Canada

Five undergraduate students from the Department of Information Technology under the College of Engineering (CEN) represented the University in two international programs: the Communication Technology (CommTECH) Camp Insight 2026—Stream 1: Technology Innovations, and Stream 2: Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Innovations—hosted by Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Surabaya, Indonesia, and the Micro-credential Virtual Program hosted by the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC), Canada. Mr. Benjamin Kacey L. Pidazo and Mr. Airan Vinz T. Araneta participated in the CommTECH Camp Insight 2026, where they had the opportunity to explore technological developments in Indonesia, particularly the latest innovations from ITS, as well as the implementation of the SDGs at ITS and in Surabaya. The program featured dynamic courses and workshops, seminars, hands-on activities, discussions with key entity representatives, and visits to iconic destinations. Mr. Pidazo and Mr. Araneta also collaborated on sustainable innovations and received the “Most Curious Participant” Award while securing scholarships for both program streams. Meanwhile, Mr. Gabriel P. Ampis, Mr. Rion Fauszt O. Bustos, and Mr. Jim Henson C. Martin are currently participating in the “Basics of Defending Against Cybercrime” Micro-credential Virtual Program, which runs from March 1 to May 8, 2026. The program provides participants with an understanding of how cybercriminals use technology to their advantage, how personal cybercrimes, such as spam and cyberbullying, can harm businesses and individuals, how social media operates, and how both criminals and law enforcement utilize social media platforms. It also emphasizes the importance of protecting personal information from misuse. Mr. Ampis, Mr. Bustos, and Mr. Martin are the first recipients of the University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific (UMAP) Canada Scholarship Grant, amounting to CAD 1,600, which covers their registration fee for the virtual course program.

CLSUAAI Installs New Board of Directors

The Central Luzon State University Alumni Association Incorporated (CLSUAAI) has officially installed its newly elected Board of Directors and officers following an oath-taking ceremony held on March 9, 2026. The oath-taking, administered by CLSU President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, formalized the board’s assumption of duties and its pledge to uphold the association’s mission of serving CLSU alumni. CLSU Advances Inclusivity and Safe Spaces through “Hue Belong” Seminar

The Central Luzon State University (CLSU) through the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), the University Supreme Student Council (USSC), and the CLSU Paruparong Bukid held an educational seminar dubbed “Hue Belong: Mas Happy ‘Pag May Equality” on March 6, 2026, at the Auditorium. The Hue Belong seminar advocates for building and maintaining inclusivity, affirming spaces for the queer community and the wider population. The program begins with a series of talks that focus on respect, safety, and equal treatment for all students. Speakers from Babaylanes Inc., Mr. Bryon Neil A. Senga and Ms. Saira Pambid, led sessions on Building Safe Spaces and SOGIE 101. Mr. Senga explained that ideas about femininity are changing from old stereotypes of fragility to broader, more empowered views, while Ms. Pambid stressed that both students and the university must work together to keep the campus safe and respectful. Babaylanes Inc. is a non-profit organization that empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth through human rights education, capacity-building, and advocacy. It convenes the National LGBT Students Network to coordinate campus LGBT organizing. Furthermore, the event included a Couch Session that tackled several topics, including self-identity and belonging, with Mx. ML Tucay, who also gave a performance that highlighted the program’s message. This event forms part of CLSU’s celebration of Women’s Month and reflects the institution’s continuing commitment to building a more inclusive community - one that upholds safety, dignity, and equal opportunities for all members of the University. #SievingForExcellence

CVSM Clinches Top Spot at 32nd PARAmihan ng Alam

Central Luzon State University (CLSU), through the College of Veterinary Science and Medicine (CVSM), has once again proven its excellence in veterinary sciences, clinching the Championship title at the 32nd National PARAmihan ng Alam, organized by the UP Alpha Chiron Society (UPACS), held on March 7, 2026, at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). Outshining 21 teams from 11 State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) across the country, the CLSU delegation secured the top spot, earning the P20,000 grand prize and a specialized kit of professional resources that solidifies its reputation as a powerhouse in veterinary parasitology. The championship-winning trio was composed of Ms. Dannah Jedidah G. Lucas, Ms. Krista M. Mendoza, and Mr. Mark Joedel U. Mendez. Other teams, featuring Allen Dave B. Serrano, Dan Carlo H. Crisostomo, and Lance Josef E. Landagan, also delivered a formidable performance. The expert mentorship of Dr. Katrina E. delos Reyes and Dr. Marvin Bryan S. Salinas guided both teams. CLSU placed ahead of other SUCs, with UPLB in second and De La Salle Araneta University in third, reinforcing CLSU’s status as a leader in veterinary education in the Philippines.

DAP Introduces BAGANI Program to CLSU Young Leaders

To inspire a passion for transformative leadership and promote the principles of good governance among the students and young faculty of Central Luzon State University (CLSU), the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) launched the “BAGANI: Rising Leaders Development Program” today, March 6, at the RIE Amphitheater. The program aims to equip emerging leaders with the skills, vision, and mindset needed to drive positive change in their communities and beyond. During the event, DAP Project Officer Ellinoar Santos, emphasized the crucial role of the youth in shaping the nation's future. "We developed this program para sa mga young leaders. Kasi, you are the agents of today, you will change the system, and you are the leaders of tomorrow,” she shared. Mark Sambajon, BAGANI program communication specialist, echoed this sentiment, "We acknowledge that young people now are rising in their own communities, making these changes themselves. So, the academy wants to complement that and turn that energy into something transformative in the public sector." The DAP delegation was led by Mr. June Arvin Gudoy, Vice President for Corporate Affairs, who facilitated an engaging Q&A session on students’ roles in public service. Wrapping up the successful event, Dr. Irene G.
