CLSU Produces New Batch of Licensed Food Technologists

The Central Luzon State University, through the College of Home Science and Industry, successfully produced fourteen newly licensed Professional Food Technologists in the August 2024 Food Technologist Licensure Examination (FTLE), administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). CLSU’s examinees achieved a notable pass rate of 38.89%, with first-time takers performing exceptionally well at 42.11%, and re-examinees achieving a 35.29% pass rate. UPLB Hails President Abella as Distinguished Alumnus for Academic Leadership

The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), through the School of Environmental Science and Management (SESAM), bestowed Dr. Evaristo A. Abella with the Distinguished Alumni Award for his notable achievements and contributions to the field of environmental science held today, October 8, at the UPLB campus, Laguna during its 106th Loyalty Day and Alumni Homecoming celebration. Serving as the 11th University President, Chair of the Regional Research and Development Coordinating Council (RRDCC); the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) Region 3; and the Development Council-State Universities and Colleges (DC-SUCs) III - Center for Interinstitutional Research and Policy Studies (CIRPS), Dr. Abella’s contributions were felt not only within CLSU but throughout Central Luzon by taking the role of leader who helps and accommodates other institutions, fostering a strengthened partnership and relationship to other higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country. With the theme “Affirming Loyalty of UPLB Alumni to the University: Then, Now and Beyond,” Dr. Abella presented CLSU’s shared heritage and responsibility to that of UPLB in advancing knowledge for stronger communities during the SESAM Alumni Homecoming Symposium. “Together, we have built a legacy of excellence in agriculture, natural resources, and rural development. We will continue to push boundaries, innovate, and make a lasting impact on communities here in the Philippines and abroad. Let us continue to work hand-in-hand, united by our shared heritage and responsibility to creating a brighter, more sustainable future for all.” said President Abella. The audience including his fellow alumni, faculty, staff, and students appreciated Dr. Abella’s presentation, as he committed to the continuous collaboration between the two institutions that molded his career and made him what he is today. Along with his fellow alumni awardees, Dr. Arlen A. Ancheta (Research and Extension), Dr. Luningning R. Morales (Government Service), and Dr. Julius Alfonso C. Sabularse (Private Practice), Dr. Abella received a certificate of recognition and received a bust of Macli-ing Dulag, an environmental hero of the Philippines, to commemorate his contributions to raising the need for a more careful analysis of development projects that is anchored on social justice and sustainable development. Moreover, Dr. Ronan G. Zagado, a newly hired faculty member of the Department of Communication and Development Studies was also recognized as the Distinguished Alumni of the UPLB-College of Development Communication. Consequently, as a culminating activity, Pres. Abella and Dr. Zagado joined the UPLB Alumni Association (UPLBAA) awarding ceremony held at the Charles Fuller Baker Hall in the afternoon together with other outstanding alumni awarded by Capt. Mauro W. Barradas, UPLBAA President and Dr. Jose V. Camacho, Jr., UPLB Chancellor.

CBA Students Receive Recognition at 18th Business Idea and Development Award

Students from the College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) clinched the Grand Winner Award after presenting their business plan for their innovative product named “Natal Eco’s Cob Delights” under the Food Product Category during the 18th Business Idea and Development Award (BIDA) at Our Lady of Perpetual Succor College (OLOPSC), Marikina City, on October 2, 2024. The team is composed of Fourth-Year Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Marketing Management students namely Ms. Angelie Jezny Almeria, Mr. Larence D. Abalos, Mr. Heinrich F. Bautista, Ms. Maria Sheryl E. Loyola, Ms. Mikaela R. Dela Paz, and Ms. Mariel A. Concepcion. They will receive a P40,000 cash prize at the official awarding ceremony, which will be held at the Marriott Hotel, Pasay City, on October 22, 2024. Concurrently, another group of Fourth-Year Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship presenting their project entitled “EntrePreview” under the Service Category secured a position in the Top 5. The team members are comprised of Ms. Danielle Marie D. Giron, Ms. Jessica I. Libunao, Mr. Aldwyn Jhon Ace A. Friginal, Ms. Jannah Nicole L. Caingal, and Mr. Kenneth Kaye C. Ramos. The competition was spearheaded by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and was joined by 71 participating teams across the country. COS Intensifies Research and Extension Activities, Signs Partnership with Local and International Collaborators

The College of Science (COS) through the initiatives of the Department of Math and Physics and the Department of Chemistry, intensified its collaboration with various institutions for research partnership and extension activity on September 26, 2024. The Department of Chemistry’s Computational Chemistry Laboratory signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with New Mexico State University's (NMSU) - Gold Research Laboratory to create a dynamic academic environment that promotes interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange in computational chemistry. University President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella led the signing ceremony together with Dr. Angeles M. De Leon, Dean of the College of Science, Dr. Mark Aldren M. Feliciano, Head of the Computational Chemistry Laboratory, reciprocating the signatures of their counterpart, Dr. Brian Gold, Leader of the Gold Research Laboratory, and Ms. Rita Parra, Research Administrator. On the other hand, the Department of Math and Physics (DMP) expanded their existing partnership to the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of San Jose City, Nueva Ecija through the formal signing of a supplemental Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). This initiative focuses on improving their skills in action research writing and equipping them to conduct meaningful educational studies. During the signing ceremony, Dr. Josie C. Palioc, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, represented Dr. Ericson S. Sabacan, DepEd Schools Division Superintendent. Also present were Dr. John Rafael M. Antalan, Department Head of DMP, and Dr. Hazel G. Diaz, project leader, along with witnesses Mr. Vismark T. Manuel, Ms. Diwata D. Duran, Mr. Allan Santos, and Mr. Moses Gil Honorio.
