CLSU Recognizes Exemplary Employees in PRAISE Ceremony

Marking its 118th year as a leading institution in higher education and community development, Central Luzon State University (CLSU) recently recognized the invaluable contributions of its dedicated employees in fostering its legacy during the Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (PRAISE) Ceremony held on April 11, 2025, at the FPJ Communication Hall. In his opening remarks, Dr. Ariel G. Mactal, Vice President for Administration and Chair of the PRAISE Committee, set the tone for the celebration by reflecting on the university’s journey and recognizing the invaluable contributions of the people who have shaped CLSU into what it is today. “This year we carry the inspiring theme ‘Greatness from humble beginnings’ It reminds us not only of where CLSU began but also all the incredible journey that each of us individually and collectively has taken to shape the institution into what it is today. A beacon of excellence in education, research, and public service,” said Dr. Mactal. He also emphasized the vital role of the community in shaping the university’s success, stating, “Let us not forget that behind every successful individual is a network of colleagues, mentors, and supporters who have guided and uplifted us throughout our journey in CLSU. As we celebrate the achievements of our awardees, let us also recognize the collective effort and spirit of collaboration that brought us to this moment.” Moreover, University President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella praised everyone for their unwavering service, indicating that the university will always be grateful for each employee's efforts in providing excellent service. “As we give your awards today, may it be a symbol of our profound gratitude for your relentless dedication which sustains the spirit of CLSU. Unfortunately, for some nominees, it will be a different ending, but please know that even without the plaque, the administration is grateful for your service, and the fact that you have been nominated means you are and will remain an asset to our institution. All your efforts are valued, and in another form or shape, you are all praiseworthy,” said President Abella. The ceremony proceeded with the awarding of loyalty service pins, certificates, and plaques to individuals who have reached significant career milestones at CLSU, including those who have dedicated ten years or more to the university. Retirees from 2023 to 2024 were also honored with similar tokens of appreciation in recognition of their years of dedicated service. CLSU, AWB USA Conduct Training on Water Evaluation and Adaptation Planning

Central Luzon State University (CLSU), in partnership with Academics without Borders-United States of America (AWB USA), commenced an important training session on Water Evaluation and Adaptation Planning (WEAP) from September 8 to 11, 2025. Over 30 participants attended the training, which is a collaborative effort between the Institute for Climate Change and Environmental Management (ICCEM), the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (DABE), the College of Science (CoS), and the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice). The goal is to equip students, faculty, and staff with the necessary tools to manage water resources effectively in the face of climate change. During the opening program, University President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella emphasized the significance of this workshop for the university. “Remember that as an agricultural university, it is important that we should be able to connect every detailed factor that will improve the productivity and the food sustainability and security of our country,” he stated. Additionally, Dr. Gella Patria L. Abella, Head of the Institute for Climate Change and Environmental Management (ICCEM), introduced Dr. Samuel S. Solis, a professor from the University of California, Davis, USA, and a volunteer from AWB USA, who served as the resource person for the session. Dr. Solis is expected to discuss various water evaluation and adaptation planning topics and will guide participants in hands-on activities to build a WEAP model for CLSU. AWB USA is a non-profit organization based in Davis, California, that supports building capacity in institutions of higher education in developing nations. #SievingForExcellence

AACCUP Accreditation Ends with Evaluators Commending the 4 Programs’ Strong Curriculum

The Central Luzon State University (CLSU), through the College of Science (CoS), concluded a five-day accreditation visit by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) from September 1 to 5, 2025. The accreditation focused on four academic programs: Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (BS Math), Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science (BSES), Bachelor of Science in Meteorology (BSMet), and Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Management. Team leader Dr. Lawrence Anthony U. Dollente delivered the overall impressions, commending each program for its strengths and identifying areas for improvement. For BS Math, Dr. Dollente praised the program's commitment to academic quality, noting its relevant curriculum and competent faculty. He also highlighted that students are well-prepared for teaching, research, and industry careers. Meanwhile, the BS Environmental Science program was recognized for its highly competent and dedicated faculty, who have published in reputable journals and are actively involved in community extension work. Dr. Dollente also commended the PhD in Environmental Management program for its strong academic leadership, robust governance, and solid commitment to quality assurance and innovation. For the preliminary visit of the BS Meteorology program, Prof. Alex Garibay Jr. complimented its readiness for Level 1 accreditation, citing a strong curriculum, effective instruction, and published research. Dr. Dollente further affirmed CLSU’s status as a leading institution. "Its distinctive strengths in faculty qualification, research linkages, extension services, library modernization, and academic governance solidify its position as a leading institution in the region and beyond," he stated. In response, University President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella pledged the university's commitment to continuous improvement, stating, "Your feedback has given us a roadmap to ensure that CLSU remains steadfast in its mission to provide quality instruction, conduct meaningful research, and extend services that truly uplift communities.”

CenTrAD, CVSM Hold VetALERT Training to Enhance Veterinary Capacity

In an effort to build stronger veterinary capacity, the Center for Transboundary Diseases (CenTrAD) and the College of Veterinary Science and Medicine (CVSM) held a training workshop entitled Advancing Livestock Enterprise and Resource Training Program for Veterinarians (VetALERT): Strengthening Diagnostic Competence in Pathology and Transferrable Veterinary Skills on August 26-29, 2025. In her Opening Remarks, Dr. Virginia M. Venturina, Director of CenTrAD, warmly welcomed the participants and underscored the significance of the activity in advancing veterinary practice, emphasizing its role in enhancing professional growth and ensuring quality service. Dr. Ravelina R. Velasco, CLSU Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Corrie Brown, LifeStock International Executive Director; Dr. Christian P. Daquigan, DA-BAI OIC Director; Dr. Jerry V. Alcantara, PVMA President; and Dr. Noraine P. Medina, CVSM Professor, delivered messages of support. They also highlighted the significance of partnership and collaboration in advancing veterinary services. Also, Dr. Janice S. Garcia, Head of the DA-BAI National ASF Prevention and Control Program, presented a comprehensive presentation on the topic “Navigating the Landscape: Challenges in Field Detection of Emerging Animal Diseases.” The session started with a lecture on Introduction to Adult Learning facilitated by Dr. Brown, followed by scenario-based discussions on avian diseases jointly conducted by Dr. Brown, Dr. Nicholas Streitenberger, and Dr. Kelsey Fiddes of the Global Health Pathology Network. The program, facilitated by Dr. Mark Andrew N. Cuento, a member of the Philippine College of Poultry Practitioners and a recognized expert in poultry, concluded with an interactive hands-on training on chicken necropsy, sample collection, handling, storage, packaging, and report writing.
