A special lecture about sensory analysis was conducted by Dr. Ir. Joachim J. Schouteten, a Professor from Ghent University, Belgium providing new insights to the faculty researchers and students of Central Luzon State University (CLSU) on August 12, 2022. University President Edgar A. Orden, together with Dr. Armando N. Espino Jr., VP for Research and Extension, and Dr. Renato G. Reyes, VP for Academic Affairs led the participants in welcoming Dr. Schouteten along with Ms. Mevrouw Lieve Deruelle, Project Management Assistant, during the lecture held at the RET Amphitheater. On his welcoming remarks, Dr. Orden encouraged the participants to take advantage of the event to gain new knowledge on sensory analysis and have a fruitful discussion with Dr. Schouteten to reinforce their learnings.   "It is always pleasant to hear new knowledge from people who have done a lot of work on a particular research. To our young faculty and staff, you still have so much time to learn, and remember to never stop learning,” said Dr. Orden. During the lecture, Dr. Schouteten presented his work on the “Development of a user-friendly method for combining emotional and sensory profiling by consumers” and “Studying the potential effects of information and context on consumer food experience” where he introduced the concept of a EmoSensory Wheel, a process combining the self-assessment of sensory attributes and emotions by consumers in a single wheel question format. A focal group discussion on future collaborative projects and research attended by the faculty researchers was conducted in the afternoon session. The event was facilitated by the College of Home Science and Industry (CHSI) led by Dr. Judith P. Antonino, CHSI Dean and attended online by more than 60 students via zoom.

Abella emphasized that art serves as more than just aesthetic expression; it is a vital instrument for social consciousness. “Sa pamamagitan ng ating Sining, mas mauunawaan natin ang ating sarili at ang kalagayan ng lipunang ating ginagalawan. Nagiging tulay din ito para ipahayag natin ang ating saloobin, kung tayong ay masaya, pati ang ating pagkadismaya, dahil ang sining ay hindi nag kukubli sa kasinungalingan, kundi nagpapakita ng tunay na kaganapan at estado ng ating damdamin at nang ating pamayanan,” he poetically said.
