AGRISIKAT, Sa Agrikultura, Sikat Ka, a career advocacy and family engagement in Agriculture and Fisheries, held its first major intervention activity, AGRISIKAT Camp on November 8-10, 2017 at Central Luzon State University (CLSU).
Around 120 students and teachers from the Department of Education (DepEd) Divisions of San Jose City, Science City of Muñoz, Cabanatuan City, Gapan City and Nueva Ecija participated in the said event.
Participants visited the different technology centers in the university in order to be familiarized with the career and business opportunities in line with Agri-Fishery.
Lectures and short experiential activities were provided by the centers like Ramon- Magsaysay – Center for Agricultural Resources and Environmental Studies (RM-CARES), Small Ruminant Center (SRC), Institute for Climate Change and Environmental Management (ICCEM), Philippine-Sino Center for Agricultural Technology (PhilSCAT), Center for Tropical Mushroom Research and Development (CTRMD), Freshwater Aquaculture Center (FAC), Philippine Carabao Center (PCC), CLSU Hydroponics and Aquaponics Technology (CHAT), CLSU Science Centrum, UMART and Agricultural Science and Technology School (ASTS).
Darren Espanto, a Filipino-Canadian singer-entertainer, graced the said event as Ambassador of the Project.
Also, Mr. Jaypee H. Estigoy, an Entomologist and faculty of ASTS and Dr. Lorenz J. Fajardo, a Fisheries Technologist and faculty of College of Fisheries (CF), gave their talk on Agriculture and Fisheries during the first day of the camp.
AGRISIKAT is an advocacy campaign which aims at encouraging Grade 9 students to consider Agri-Fishery as their future track in Senior High School or in college.
Five faculty members of the College of Education took part in the AGRISIKAT Camp.
Dr. Regidor G. Gaboy, Project Leader of AGRISIKAT and Dean of College of Education together with Ms. Ma. Ruby Hiyasmin M. Malicdem, Mr. Mark Gill M. Mercado, Mr. Michael E. Mananghaya and Dr. Michael C. Mabalay were joined by other project investigators, Prof. Milagros A. Santos, Acting Dean of Office of Student Affairs and Ms. Maria Adrielle S. Estigoy of Office of Research, Extension and Training (RET).
The said project is under the Commission on Higher Education – National Agriculture and Fisheries Education System (CHED-NAFES) supervised by the Research, Extension and Training (RET) Office.
