AUN-QA Certifies 4 More Curricular Programs

Central Luzon State University (CLSU) has successfully obtained additional AUN-QA (ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance) certification for four programs, following a comprehensive assessment conducted from July 9 to 11, 2024. The Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Bachelor of Science in Development Communication, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, and Bachelor of Secondary Education, headed by their respective deans - Dr. Alona T. Badua, Dr. Jay C. Santos, Dr. Noraine P. Medina, and Dr. Florante P. Ibarra - have achieved the prestigious AUN-QA Certification. Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, University President expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the personnel, students, and alumni involved in the success of the AUN-QA certification. “I am deeply grateful to everyone who gave their time and effort for the success of this international certification. This achievement is a testament to our commitment to academic excellence and quality assurance,” President Abella said. With the addition of these newly certified programs, CLSU remains steadfast in upholding its high educational standards on both national and international levels. The University now proudly holds a total of seven accredited programs, further solidifying its position in the academic community. CLSU Equips Retiring Philippine Army Personnel with Aquaculture Training

Fostering the livelihood transition of retiring military personnel, the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) through its Freshwater Aquaculture Center (FAC), conducted a two-day aquaculture training under the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) Seminar on Fish Farming and Business for the Light Reaction Regiment (LRR) of the Philippine Army (PA). This was initiated by Personnel Officer Maj. Melvin Allan T. Medrano (INF) PA, Assistant Personnel Officer Capt. Jeff C. Visaya (INF) PA, and TSg. Noly V. Cailing (AGS) PA. Thirty-five (35) retiring and active personnel from LRR joined the said training held on March 18-19, 2025 at Damian Hall, LRR, PA in Fort Ramon Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija, and in CLSU FAC, Science City of Munoz, respectively. Experts from the FAC and College of Fisheries (CF) delivered a series of lectures on the basics of aquaculture and fish culture. Dr. Alvin T. Reyes, Mr. Eddie Boy T. Jimenez, Asst. Professor Lara Millen S. Pengson led the discussions, covering topics such as aquaculture principles, tilapia farming, and catfish production. The interactive lectures provided participants with insights into fish farming operations, including breeding techniques and pond management. Practical training sessions were also held at FAC where participants were welcomed by the Center Director and Catfish Technical Expert, Dr. Karl Marx A. Quiazon, and led them to the Catfish Facility. Mr. Ruel E. Gabiles conducted a hands-on demonstration on the induced spawning of catfish, giving the participants valuable skills in fish breeding techniques. Following the catfish session, Ms. Ave Joy C. Ramos provided practical training on tilapia grow-out, where the participants learned the importance of pond fertilization, proper handling and feeding, and the different equipment used in pond monitoring, among others. The training highlights the importance of providing retiring military personnel with practical skills and livelihood opportunities. By equipping them with aquaculture knowledge, the program aims to empower former personnel with the tools they need to establish their fish farming ventures for their post-military careers. #LifeBelowWater #SievingForExecellence

IAO Mobility Chief Completes IZN Mgmt Workshop in Germany as DAAD Scholar

Dr. Emil F. Ubaldo, Chief of the Mobility and Intercultural Exchange Unit at the International Affairs Office, completed the first workshop of the Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies (DIES) Management of Internationalization (MoI) Program for the 2025-2026 cohort held on March 10 to 19, 2025 at Leibniz Universität Hannover and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) headquarters in Germany. Selected from over 160 applicants across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, Dr. Ubaldo was one of the 30 internationalization leaders chosen for this 18-month hybrid professional development program. This supraregional initiative aimed at supporting universities in developing and emerging countries in managing internationalization efforts, with an equal distribution of 10 participants per region. The program targets higher education professionals responsible for coordinating international activities at their home institutions. It is jointly organized by Leibniz Universität Hannover, the German Rectors' Conference (HRK), and DAAD, with funding support from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and collaboration with regional university partners in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Dr. Ubaldo views the program as a strategic opportunity to enhance his expertise as an international relations officer, benchmark innovative mobility initiatives, learn from his peers, and gain insights from global experts to advance CLSU’s internationalization activities. The in-person workshop in Germany marked the first of three interconnected sessions of the DIES Management of Internationalization Program, with Dr. Ubaldo set to continue with a second in-person workshop in Manipal, India, for the Asian cohort in October 2025, followed by a final virtual session in March 2026, where participants will share progress on their internationalization projects. A core component of the program is the development of a tailored internationalization project, where participants set goals, create roadmaps, and track progress while enhancing their management and intercultural skills and expanding their global networks. For his project, Dr. Ubaldo will focus on enhancing the student mobility mechanism at Central Luzon State University by streamlining current processes and developing innovative approaches, aiming to improve efficiency, increase student participation in global exchanges, and foster stronger international partnerships. Since the launch of the DIES MoI program in 2013, two Filipinos have completed it, with two currently participating in this cohort, reflecting its selective nature. CLSU, LANDBANK Pre-Launch "Cash-Lite Campus" for Digital Transactions

The Central Luzon State University (CLSU) through its Business Affairs Program (UBAP) and the Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) pre-launched on March 27, 2025 the "Cash-Lite Campus" project which introduced digital payment solutions for ambulant vendors, University Transport Service (UTS) drivers, and other merchants operating on campus. The project aims to facilitate secure, efficient, and convenient cashless transactions across the campus, reducing reliance on physical cash. UTS drivers, ambulant vendors, business owners from the Community Market, Alumni Food Court, and Marketing Business Center were informed on the benefits and security of cashless transactions. They also received assistance in creating LANDBANK accounts and were provided with free, printed QR codes for their businesses. Dr. Karenina B. Romualdo, Vice President for Business Affairs, and Ms. Liza J. Melendez, LANDBANK's Vice President and Head of Northeast Luzon Branches Group, through Ms. Mercedita DR. Lustina, LANDBANK Muñoz-CLSU Branch Head, spearheaded this innovative partnership. "This UBAP initiative marks the beginning of a digital transformation in CLSU's business operations, but this is just the beginning. True transformation is a collective triumph - one which demands unity, commitment, and unwavering embrace of change," stated Dr. Romualdo. As CLSU transitions into the new era of cashless payments, LANDBANK plans to extend the "Cash-Lite" initiative to students and gasoline stations frequently utilized by UTS drivers. “This is a movement, not just an initiative, demanding a whole-of-CLSU approach to ensure every stakeholder contributes to this new era. While this journey will take time, today marks a historic milestone—the foundation for a future defined by innovation and progress,” Dr. Romualdo added. Meanwhile, VP Melendez emphasized the benefits of the "Cash-Lite" system, stating, "Following our successful implementation in Batanes, we aim to make CLSU a model university for cashless transactions. Account holders only need one peso to maintain their accounts, ensuring secure transactions, eliminating the need for change, and earning interest. This will provide unparalleled convenience and accessibility." The CLSU Merchant community is now poised to fully embrace a system of cashless transactions across all services.
