CF M.SC. STUDENT WINS 2ND BEST POSTER IN THE 13TH INTERNATIONAL KUROSHIO SCIENCE SYMPOSIUM

Niko A. Macaraeg, a Master of Science in Aquaculture student of the College of Fisheries (CF), bagged 2nd place for best poster presentation in the 13th International Kuroshio Science Symposium held from November 19 to 21 in Claude Andrews Convention Center, Cagayan State University Andrews Campus, Caritan Sur, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. Mr. Macaraeg presented his research paper co-authored by Prof. Janet O. Saturno, one of the faculty members of CF, entitled "Rhizofiltration Potential of Floating Aquatic Macrophytes (FAMs) in Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus L.) Tanks". Five other M.Sc. Aquaculture students also presented the results of their case studies and thesis as a requirement for their subject AQ 799 (Seminar). Eleven posters were presented during the symposium participated by representatives from BFAR regional offices, state colleges and universities from the Philippines and Japan. The main activity of the two-day symposium was the presentation of 53 scientific studies categorized into Fisheries Biology and Oceanography; Fisheries Resource Management, Fisheries Socio-Economic, Seafood Safety and Processing Technology; and Ecological Habitats and Climate Sciences. The event bearing the theme "Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation towards Sustainable Fisheries Resources Along Kuroshio Region" is one of the essential activities of the Kuroshio Science Network that works on the common goal of promoting sustainable resources along with communities in the Kuroshio region who share the resources and energy brought by the current.

CLSU Holds Blessing for Farmers’ Training Hostel

Central Luzon State University (CLSU) officially inaugurated the Farmers’ Training Hostel during a blessing ceremony held on November 20, 2024. The blessing was led by Fr. Rufo Ramil Cruz, CLSU Chaplain, joined by Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, University President, Dr. Ariel G. Mactal, Vice President for Administration, Dr. RavelinaR. Velasco, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Karenina B. Romualdo, Vice President for University Business Affairs, Dr. Ma. Elizabeth C. Leoveras, Head of Auxiliary Services alongside other esteemed members of the Administrative Council. The newly renovated Farmers’ Training Hostel is a two-story building with 24 rooms, designed to accommodate visitors and guests, particularly those attending stay-in training programs. The hostel is located behind the CEC Hostel and adjacent to the R&E Cafeteria.

The recent typhoon brought challenges to Central Luzon State University, leaving visible signs of its impact across the campus.
