The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) from the Central Office, led by their Executive Director Atty. Cinderella Filipina Benitez-Jaro, visited the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) to learn the basics of urban farming as part of their 28th founding anniversary celebration last May 12, 2022, held at the newly-inaugurated Precision and Digital Agriculture Center (PreDict).
University President Edgar A. Orden together with Dr. Armando N. Espino Jr., Vice President for Research and Extension, Engr. Christopher Pascual, resource speaker for the Indoor Vertical Farming System (IVFS), and Strategic Communication Office staff welcomed the CHED delegates.
The activity intends to encourage and train the CHED employees on IVFS, specifically the hydroponics system which they can establish in their homes or offices in pursuit of smart agriculture.
Meanwhile, Atty. Jaro commended CLSU for its efforts in giving quality education and its involvement in the agriculture sector. Moreover, she also emphasized three points in her message which include excellent, lifelong learning, and provision of grants to SUCs.
“Isa sa mga kilalang tatak ng CLSU ay farming, that is one your brands. We know that you are the experts in this field that is why we are here. If there is an SUC who can give education/training to CHED employees on agriculture and inspiration to the community, it will be and it should be CLSU,” Atty. Jaro said.
She also encouraged CLSU to continue serving the community and be a lifelong partner of CHED in giving excellent service to its stakeholders.
The activity was capped off with a visit to the Small Ruminant Center, Philippine Carabao Center, Agriculture and Food Technology Business Incubator, and the Zen Garden where they were accommodated by the Center Heads and technology experts.
