CLSU Honors the Legacy of Known and Unknown Heroes of the University
The Central Luzon State University (CLSU) paid tribute to its unsung heroes during the “80th Anniversary and Commemoration of the Liberation of the Central Luzon Agricultural School (CLAS) and the memorial to the Known and Unknown Heroes of World War II” held on February 7, 2025 at the Vivencio Saulong Monument. Among the attendees were direct descendants of Vivencio Saulong, a student-leader from Mindoro and member of Squadron 222, who tragically sacrificed his life during the war. As part of the commemoration, the 2nd Civil-Military Operations Company and 7th Civil-Military Operations Battalion of the Armed Forces of the Philippines offered a 21-gun salute signifying the highest form of respect to the fallen heroes. University President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella urged faculty and students to emulate the patriotism and bravery exemplified by these unsung heroes. "To our students, let Vivencio Saulong serve as an inspiration, as he offered his life for our beloved university. Everything we have achieved today is a testament to the immense impact and contribution of our student-heroes like Saulong and his comrades. May this event serve as a bridge between the past and present, ensuring that the lessons of history remain alive in our hearts and in the generations to come" stated President Abella. A direct descendant of Saulong, Mr. Angel Saulong, former Mayor of Bansud, Oriental Mindoro, proudly recounted the narrative of his grandfather’s bravery and heroism. “My grandfather, Lolo Biben [Vivencio Saulong], was determined to study, which is why he left Oriental Mindoro with five or six others from Bongabong. At a young age, I remember a companion from his time here recounting my grandfather's bravery here in Nueva Ecija. During the revolution, while his companions chose to return home, he stayed here at university to become Corps Commander and fight for our country and for CLSU." Saulong recounted. This event served as a reminder to all CLSU members that bravery and patriotism are inherent qualities of every student within the institution.
