CLSU BaCaDM Project Envoy Attends Coordination Meeting in Japan

After a year of implementation, the Joint Coordination Committee of the Banana and Cacao Disease Management (BaCaDM) Project implemented under the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) initiatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), held its first in-person meeting on November 15, 2022, at the Tamagawa University (TU), Machida, Tokyo, Japan.   University President Edgar A. Orden led the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) team, together with Dr. Renato G. Reyes, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Principal Investigator, Dr. Jerwin Undan, Dr. Rich Milton Dulay, Dr. Garry Benico, Dr. Parsons Hail, project leaders, and Dr. Dionisio Alvindia, OIC Executive Director of the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization.   In his speech, President Orden expressed his gratitude to TU and JICA for the collaborative project and trust in CLSU.  “I am very happy to see that we are physically here (in Japan) to assess what we have accomplished,” President Orden said.   He also commended the CLSU team for the results of their research presented which transpired after a year of project implementation.   During the meeting, Dr. Reyes also presented the activities that took place which include virtual workshops and field collections, and the challenges they encountered and solutions made. While, Dr. Kyoko Watanabe, Principal Investigator of Japan Team discussed the ongoing accomplishments and directions of the project.   Project leaders presented their progress report which consisted of the banana and cacao cultivation practices, collection status, isolation, identification of fungi, and installation of artificial intelligence sensors in Mindanao and CLSU.   Moreover, Professor Dr. Kyoko Watanabe and Professor Dr. Koji Ishikawa will lead the two-week academic activity of faculty researchers at TU and JICA Office.   The coordination meeting was also attended by JICA Representative and SATREPS Research Supervisor.   The BaCaDM is a five-year collaborative research project between CLSU and TU that aims to develop and promote a technology system that will help farmers address major diseases in bananas and cacao.

CLSU, SCNU Strengthen Ties through Academic and Research Exchange

Central Luzon State University (CLSU) and Sunchon National University (SCNU) strengthened their institutional partnership through a two-day collaborative event on August 19–20, 2026, featuring a ceremonial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing, a friendship wall unveiling, and an international research symposium. Key officials from both universities gathered to sign an MoU establishing a broad framework for collaboration. The agreement covers Korean language education, joint research projects, faculty and student exchanges, advisory consultations, and advanced academic development. CLSU President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Ravelina R. Velasco, and College of Agriculture (CAg) Dean Dr. Jayson J. Juan led the signing. Representatives from SCNU included Department of Animal Science Head Prof. Dr. Park Gwang-ok and Dean of International Affairs Prof. Dr. Seo Kang Seok. They were also joined by SCNU delegates Prof. Dr. Ha Ho-kyung, Prof. Dr. Sangsuk Lee, Prof. Dr. Ki Chang Nam, Prof. Dr. Mijoon Pak, and Mr. Dominador Dizon Jr. In his message, Pres. Abella highlighted CLSU's dedication to strengthening the partnership through ongoing academic, scientific, and cultural collaborations. Aside from this, the SCNU–CLSU Friendship Wall was unveiled, symbolizing the shared values and aspirations that continue to deepen the relationship between the two universities. Laboratory equipment was also donated to be used in the newly renovated facility at the Department of Animal Science, CAg. The event continued with the SCNU–CLSU Joint International Symposium held at the Academic Affairs Amphitheater centered on the theme "Recent Advances in Animal Science: Sharing Research Trends and Strengthening Collaboration.” Attended by administrators, researchers, faculty, and students, the event featured three technical sessions focusing on research and innovations in livestock production, animal nutrition, dairy science, and related fields, providing a platform for scholars from both universities to present research aligned with global trends and Philippine agricultural needs. This partnership marks another milestone in the ongoing relationship between CLSU and SCNU, reinforcing their commitment to internationalization and opening meaningful opportunities for students, faculty members, researchers, and their university communities. #SievingForExcellence

CLSU Acquires First eBus for Nature-friendly Transportation

Central Luzon State University (CLSU), through the Business Affairs Program (UBAP), marked a milestone in campus mobility with the official acquisition of the first Electric Bus (eBus) named Project SULONG (Sustainable University Loop towards Nature-friendly and Green Transportation). The eBus, which can carry 35 passengers (20 seated, 15 standing), was purchased for P 5,488,000.00 and made possible through the University's Income-Generating Project. The vehicle will serve as additional transportation for students, faculty, and staff. The eBus will operate on a cashless payment system as all fares will be exclusively digital. Passengers will pay a fixed fare of P 15.00 regardless of the distance traveled along the loop. However, in the meantime, while the payment system is still being installed, the eBus service will be free of charge. Passengers simply need to present a valid ID to avail of the service. To ensure smooth and convenient transit across the campus, designated pick-up and drop-off points are provided starting from the Main Gate. The eBus will wait for 30 seconds at each designated stop to accommodate passengers. It is also equipped with GPS tracking, allowing students to conveniently monitor the eBus’s real-time location and track its arrival at their preferred stop. The stops include: A. Community Market B. Alumni Food Court C. Administration Building D. College of Home Science and Industry E. Library F. College of Education G. College of Science H. College of Agriculture I. Agricultural Science and Technology School J. College of Fisheries K. College of Veterinary Science and Medicine L. Grandstand M. Guest House N. Ladies Dorm 4 Note: Routes may be adjusted as needed based on passenger demand and operational requirements. The University hopes to acquire a second eBus following the successful implementation and operation of the first unit, subject to the availability of funds and necessary resources. This acquisition demonstrates CLSU’s commitment to providing sustainable, efficient, and eco-friendly transportation options for all stakeholders, especially for the students. #SievingForExcellence

32 Golden Grains Savor Victory in Food Tech Licensure Exam

Thirty-two Golden Grains of the Bachelor of Science in Food Technology Program from the College of Home Science and Industry (CHSI) successfully passed the August 2026 Food Technologist Licensure Examination (FTLE) held on August 12-13, 2026, and administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). The University achieved an overall passing rate of 72.73%, surpassing the national passing rate of 66.32%. This success was highlighted by a 77.78% passing rate among first-time takers and a 50% passing rate for retakers. This year’s board examination showed a notable increase over the previous year’s FTLE passing rate, demonstrating the years of intensive preparation and hands-on laboratory experience of the Golden Grains. This performance underscores the efforts of the Department of Food Science and Technology, and its graduates to strengthen academic excellence and innovation in food science and technology.
