CLSU CED EXTENDS SUPPORT TO PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS

Dec. 10, 2021

John Leo Ver Payawal | CED

In line with Central Luzon State University’s philosophy, the College of Education (CEd) extends a helping hand to improve the educational institutes in neighbouring communities and cities around Central Luzon. Led by the Extension Coordinator Mrs. Marites D. Antonio, CEd has continuously assisted various public schools by helping the teachers innovate their teaching strategies and teaching materials. The extension activities for this school year aim to impart knowledge regarding innovations in teaching literacy and developing reading materials, said Mrs. Antonio in an interview. Specifically, the CLSU CEd Extension Program on Teacher Education and Training Support Program entitled “Developing Decodable and Leveled Books for Beginning Readers” involves coaching K to 3 teachers in public elementary schools under the jurisdiction of Quezon District Division of Nueva Ecija. The series of trainings dated July 26, August 2, and August 8, 2019 were held at the Central Integrated School, Quezon, Nueva Ecija. The program was also implemented in the Division of Muñoz last July 27, August 3, and August 10, 2019. Partnerships with public elementary schools from the Quezon district and Muñoz district have shown significant results. For instance, a teacher from Maligaya Elementary School was able to teach some of her students, who were non-readers, to read. The program continues by monitoring how the teachers apply what they have learned from the seminar. “Some teachers have already conducted action research on the effectiveness of the reading material in their class,” narrated Mrs. Antonio. CEd persists in supporting public school teachers as requests for this program’s seminar and training continue to flow in from different schools around the province. “The teachers are now capable of creating their own material. Whatever the needs of their students, teachers can address that specific need because the material that they are creating are coming from their own context,” Mrs. Antonio stated.
