CLSU Equips OFW families in Nueva Ecija with Skills on Organic Farming

Families of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Nueva Ecija took a meaningful step toward sustainable living and entrepreneurial growth by participating in a two-day training on organic farming, hosted by Central Luzon State University (CLSU) on December 6-7, 2024. The event, titled “Embracing the OFW Entrepreneurial Spirit,” equipped participants with practical knowledge in organic agriculture while nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset. A joint effort of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Region 3 and CLSU’s Holistic OFW Program for Empowerment (HOPE), the training opened with an inspiring call to action from Prof. Janet O. Saturno, HOPE Project Leader, encouraging attendees to actively immerse themselves in the learning sessions. Day one featured expert-led lectures designed to build foundational skills: Dr. Carolyn P. Gonzales-Marzan shared financial planning strategies tailored to entrepreneurial ventures; Dr. Irene G. Bustos focused on fostering a positive entrepreneurial mindset; Mr. Sherwin B. Celestino motivated participants to adopt a business-oriented perspective; Mr. Ronn Adam V. Pontoy and Ms. Ellen S. Romero introduced the essentials of organic farming, emphasizing sustainable vegetable production and composting techniques. On the second day, participants engaged in hands-on activities, transitioning theory into practice. Guided demonstrations provided them with real-world experience in organic farming processes, ensuring a deeper understanding of the methods taught. Simultaneously, the Center for Tropical Mushroom Research and Development hosted the second batch of its Intensive Training on Mushroom and Spawn Production (Mushroom Pharming). This parallel initiative further enhanced the livelihood options available to OFW families. This collaborative effort reflects the shared vision of OWWA Region 3 and CLSU to empower OFW families through sustainable and entrepreneurial opportunities. By building economic resilience and promoting sustainable agriculture, the partnership continues to strengthen the capacities of OFW communities to thrive.

CLSU, DA-BAI Strengthen Partnership for Animal Vaccine Development Program

Central Luzon State University (CLSU), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture–Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI), officially launched the Animal Vaccine Development Program through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and unveiling of a marker on June 15, 2026, at the Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases (CenTrAD) in CLSU. As the lead proponent of the initiative, CLSU, through CenTrAD, will spearhead R&D efforts to produce safe, effective, and locally responsive vaccines against animal diseases that threaten livestock health and agricultural productivity in the country. The program forms part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen animal health systems and enhance the competitiveness of the livestock sector by developing vaccines tailored to local disease strains. Present during the MOA signing were DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr.; DA Undersecretary for Livestock Dr. Constante Palabrica; Dr. Christian Daguitan, Officer-in-Charge Director of DA-BAI; Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, CLSU President; Dr. Virginia Venturina, Director of CenTrAD; Dr. Claro Mingala, National Livestock Program Director; and Dr. Liza G. Battad, Executive Director of DA-PCC. In his inspiring message, DA Secretary Laurel said that, after a year since its launching, the program has finally come to fruition. Through this initiative, he expressed hope that disease prevention strategies would be strengthened and that sustainable livestock production would be promoted through research and development. The program underscores CLSU’s continuing role as a leading institution in veterinary research and innovation, advancing science-based solutions that contribute to animal health, food security, and sustainable agricultural development in the Philippines. #SievingForExcellence

CLSU Joins CHED in Anniversary Celebration, Secures 5M Pesos Project Grant

Central Luzon State University (CLSU) joined the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in celebrating the culmination event of its 32nd anniversary on June 10, 2026, held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), which brought together leaders from key academic institutions, government agencies, and industry stakeholders. Representing University President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, Dr. Parsons N. Hail, Director of the International Affairs Office, attended the event and formally received the CHED Higher Education Development Fund (HEDF) Project Grant worth P5 million. CLSU is among the State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) selected as beneficiaries of the grant, which aims to support institutional development and strengthen higher education initiatives. The said event highlighted major reforms, expanding scholarship opportunities, and forging strategic partnerships aimed at addressing workforce gaps, strengthening student welfare, and enhancing the global competitiveness of Philippine higher education, as shared by the CHED Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, during the State of Higher Education Address. Under the ACHIEVE Agenda of Chair Agrupis, she emphasized the significant role of HEIs and their partners in the realization of its plans and objectives for Higher Education, which includes: (A) ADVANCED AND ACCESSIBLE LIFELONG LEARNING, (C) CENTRALIZED ONE-NATION HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN; (H) HARMONIZED SDG-BASED RESEARCH AND INNOVATION; (I) INTEGRATED REAL-TIME DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYTICS; (E) EXPANDED AND IMPACT-DRIVEN INTERNATIONALIZATION; (V) VITALIZED POLICIES, INTERNAL SYSTEMS, AND GOVERNANCE; and (E) EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT PUBLIC SERVICE. CLSU, as one of the reputable higher education institutions in the country and in Southeast Asia, continues to support the commission through leveraging the university’s initiatives and programs through academic and research programs, meaningful partnerships, and internationalization opportunities to its main stakeholders, the CLSU students, faculty, and staff.

CLSU Partners with Terra Solar Philippines Inc. for Agrivoltaic Innovation Project

Central Luzon State University (CLSU), through the Center for Climate Change and Environmental Management (CCCEM) and Terra Solar Philippines Inc., forged a partnership on June 4, 2026, marking the beginning of a strategic collaboration aimed at advancing sustainable agriculture and renewable energy integration through the project titled “Assessment of Agrivoltaic Suitability and Crop Productivity Enhancement in the Solar Farms of Gapan City, Nueva Ecija.” The project, funded by Terra Solar Philippines Inc., seeks to evaluate the potential of agrivoltaic systems in optimizing land use by integrating solar energy production with agricultural activities. This initiative reflects the shared commitment of CLSU and Terra Solar Philippines Inc. in promoting innovation-driven solutions that address food security, renewable energy transition, and sustainable land management through research, science, and technology. Present during the ceremonial MOA signing were Dr. Gella Patria L. Abella, Director of CCCEM, and the President and Chief Executive Officer of Terra Solar Philippines Inc., Mr. Dennis B. Jordan, together with other key representatives from both institutions.
