Foreign students composed of 8 undergrad students from Northern Illinois University (NIU) and 1 from the College of DuPage, Illinois, USA are now being hosted by the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) under the project “The Philippines’ Coffee and Carabao Culture and Language: Tagalog Language Immersion in Northern and Southern Rural Philippines” funded by the Fulbright-Hays program of the United States Department of Education.
The Central Luzon State University (CLSU) will facilitate the northern Philippines leg of the program from July 1 to 26, after they completed their activities organized by Cavite State University from June 6 to 30, 2023. Along with the students are 2 NIU professors and 1 professor from Sauk Valley Community College as project evaluator.
During the welcome luncheon, Dr. Edgar A. Orden, University President, together with Dr. Ravelina R. Velasco, VP for Academic Affairs, Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, VP for Administration, and Dr. Jay C. Santos, Dean of the College of Arts and Social Sciences welcomed the participants and showed their support to this international endeavor.
Furthermore, cultural activities like discussions on indigenous people, rice planting, learning Philippine language and culture, cooking Filipino dishes, and radio broadcasting will be the highlight of the program where the participants are expected to learn Filipino values and traditions. Other activities such as welcome dinner, agri-tourism tour, cultural nights and a lecture series will also be part of the experiential activity of the program.
