DOST-PCAARRD Bestows Pantas Award to President Orden

The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) bestowed the prestigious Pantas Award for Most Outstanding Research Administrator to President Edgar A. Orden during its 51st founding anniversary celebration in Los Baños, Laguna today, November 10.   Dr. Orden as the 10th University President, exemplified an outstanding performance as a research administrator during his term. As a seasoned researcher himself, Dr. Orden who implemented numerous projects and national R&D programs knew the importance of the specialized R&D Centers of the university which he pushed to perform its full potential from technology generation up to commercialization.   Continuing the quest for knowledge innovation and scientific contribution, Dr. Orden also supported the formulation and institutionalization of the harmonized R&D Agenda which led to the generation of 112 newly developed technologies and products.   With the challenges brought by the pandemic, Dr.  Orden demonstrated his capacity as a visionary leader who turned uncertainties into opportunities. He mandated the creation of different management information systems that improved the operation of the university. During this time, he personally supervised the construction of three major centers such as the Precision and Digital Agriculture Center, the Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases, and the Plant Pest Disease Diagnostic and Research Center.   Dr. Orden also supported, mentored, and encouraged the faculty researchers to submit proposals to funding agencies for continuous support on research engagements. As a result, the university generated almost 1 billion pesos worth of R&D funds from both local and foreign institutions.   To ensure a stronger and globally competitive CLSU, Pres. Orden spearheaded the establishment of partnerships with national and international organizations. All these endeavors resulted in the recognition of CLSU in various global rankings.   All of these accomplishments and recognitions paved the way for Dr. Orden to be worthy of the Pantas Award for Most Outstanding Research Administrator in recognition of his unwavering commitment and efforts that benefited not only CLSU but also the farmers, entrepreneurs, students, and other stakeholders in nearby communities.   During his acceptance speech, Dr. Orden conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to the DOST-PCAARRD and to the CLSU community for their support and trust in his capability as a research administrator.   “The PANTAS Award is a fitting recognition of not just my deeds but CLSU’s accomplishments in the field of S&T, innovation, and commercialization for the last 4 years under my leadership. It was not a smooth journey but a long and winding one, nevertheless, there is sweetness in all of these successes and after all, success is not a destination but it is a journey” said Dr. Orden.   In receiving the said award, Dr. Orden was joined by his wife, Dr. Maria Excelsis M. Orden. A number of CLSU and CLAARRDEC personnel were also present during the awarding ceremony.   The PANTAS Award is given every two years by DOST-PCAARRD to anyone who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources research and development in the Philippines.

CLSU Showcases Network Infrastructure and Digital Initiatives in ICT Forum 2025

Dr. Khavee Agustus Botangen, Head of the Management Information System Office (MISO), represented the University in the Access Network Information Communications Technology (ICT) Forum with the theme “CyberBayan: Building and Securing Digital Future for EveryJuAN” held from July 20 to August 1, 2025, at the Plaza Adriano Events Place, Science City of Muñoz (SCM), Nueva Ecija. The event enhanced ICT accessibility, cultivated a pipeline of ICT professionals, particularly in cybersecurity, and fostered a collaborative ICT community within SCM. During the forum, Dr. Botangen delivered a presentation detailing the development of Central Luzon State University’s (CLSU) campus network infrastructure over the past five years, setting a foundation for the university's "eCLSU" initiative. He also highlighted ongoing digital transformation efforts within the university. Furthermore, Dr. Botangen also discussed how CLSU's scientific and innovative technological outputs, combined with the integration of emerging ICT solutions, can significantly contribute to SCM's aspiration of becoming a smart city. The forum convened a diverse group of experts and stakeholders, including representatives from key agencies such as the Department of Science and Technology - Nueva Ecija (DOST-NE), DOST's Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI), Department of Trade and Industry - Nueva Ecija (DTI Nueva Ecija), Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), Philippine Carabao Center (PCC), and CLSU, among others. PGNE Seeks Partnership with CLSU for the Establishment of a Provincial Food Processing Facility

Recognizing the leadership of Central Luzon State University (CLSU) in agriculture and agricultural technologies, the Provincial Government of Nueva Ecija (PGNE) officials led by Provincial Administrator Atty. Joma San Pedro, presented the plan of the province to establish a Food Processing Facility (FPF) for high-value and other leading crops within the province, a first of its kind in the Region, today, July 31 at the New Administration Conference Room. “Under Governor Aurelio “Oyie” Matias Umali’s directive, we are here to seek CLSU’s help and craft a feasibility study and business plan for the proposed establishment of the FPF, considering that the CLSU is one of the leading universities in the country,” said Atty. San Pedro. In response, University President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella accepted the challenge and recognized the importance of the proposal to maximize the impact of the university not just in the local community but also in the province and the region. “With the technical expertise of our faculty researchers and extension workers, we are in full support of this endeavor of the PGNE and we are looking forward to this partnership which hopefully will transcend politics and generations for the betterment of our province,” Dr. Abella affirmed. President Abella among the Guests in the Post-SONA Discussions on Education

University President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella joined Commission on Higher Education Chairperson, Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, and selected presidents of top-performing State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) across the country during the 2025 Post-State of the Nation Address (SONA) discussions held earlier today, July 30 at the Makabagong San Juan National Government Center, San Juan City, Metro Manila. The session centered on the theme ‘Education and Workers’ Welfare Development,’ as this topic received a significant attention in President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos' SONA. During the discussions, CHED Chair Agrupis affirmed that free education will continue and that, they are now ready to fulfill the President’s desire to ensure that every household has at least one college or techvoc graduate. With this, President Abella expressed his commitment that CLSU will take part in this national movement by upholding the university’s mission to deliver quality education and exemplary service to its stakeholders. Following the event, a brief meeting was conducted between CHED Chairperson Agrupis and SUC Presidents to discuss a potential collaborative project aimed at maximizing land resources for rice production, enabling SUCs to contribute to achieving rice sufficiency.
