The CLSU Main Gate glows and sparkles with lights and symbolic decorations showcasing the festive and joyous celebration of Christmas that depicts the Filipino Bayanihan spirit. November 11 marked the CLSU Christmas Lighting program which has been a university tradition that ushers in the celebration of Christmas on campus. Excitement was record high this year since the preparations for the big day were shared online through a video teaser showing how the concept of “CLSU Paskong Pinoy with Bayanihan sa Bayan ni Juan” as theme will be showcased. In his message during the Lighting Ceremony, Dr. Tereso A. Abella, CLSU President, expressed his appreciation and happiness that once again, the CLSU family is together in celebration of the very meaningful season, his last Christmas celebration as university president. He expressed his wish that everyone will continue the beautiful tradition of imbibing the Christmas spirit through this tagline: “Christmas Lights: Sustaining Unity” while at the same time showcasing the strengths of the university. Everyone witnessed the shining Christmas decors after the countdown led by Dr. Abella together with the four Vice Presidents, other university officials, steering committee members, working committees, students and the other members of the CLSU community. The lighting ceremony was followed by special dance numbers, video presentations and the 2019 CLSU Christmas ID featuring students, faculty, staff and officials sharing their own meaning of “Paskong Pinoy”. The spectators were also surprised to know of the several new features of the celebration which includes a one-hour program from 6:00-7:00 o’clock in the evening that will go for one month and which will allow the different performing groups and organizations on campus to showcase their talents and production numbers. A “Pondahan ni Juan” in the  nipa hut-disguised waiting shed which mimics the concept of a “Sari-Sari Store” serves as outlet where people could buy CLSU’s products (foods and drinks) which they could share while enjoying the lights and the shows. Moreover, unique and symbolic decors are among the eye catchers especially the Nativity Scene in traditional Filipino clothes, and the Three Kings depicted as three farmers offering products and technologies produced and generated by CLSU. Lights and other displays are also featured along the University Lagoon, Administration Building and Centennial Ground which, like the CLSU Main Gate, offer a beautiful evening rendezvous for students and faculty members, together with their families, for them to relax and unwind after a busy day.
