One of the 'Best Selling' Author Jerry Yapo Holds Book Launching in CLSU

Professor Jerry R. Yapo from University of the Philippines – Los Banos, launched his book entitled "Artfully Speaking and Other Essays" which according to his publisher is the newest best selling book in the country after its first print was sold out in less than a year. The launching was led by the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) Center for Central Luzon Studies in partnership with Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) last March 16 at the CLSU Reimers Hall. Delighted by the warm welcome of the CLSU community including students from the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), Prof. Yapo shared his milestone and success in writing his book which depicts his personal life experiences and encounters from his early childhood up to his professional life in UP. The book launch also featured several art works and sculptures by several local artists which compliments the essays within the book. In his pep talk about writing for publication, Prof. Yapo shared to the audience some key elements which for him was helpful in writing his first book and proves that anyone with the proper story and passion can be a successful author.   “Learn how to blow up the world and then the rules will come later” so my techniques is simply read to breathe in, write to breathe out, Insincerity as the number one enemy of language  don’t fake it just like how you prettify yourself, Find your voice,  Reveal inner truth, Start with a compelling idea (hook), The best writing is rewriting, and Text should be easily read, but difficult to master. “ said Prof. Yapo. Meanwhile, Atty. Marvin B. Aceron, Publisher from San Anselmo Publication Inc., took the opportunity to introduce some of their published books and donated several sets to the Bongabon National High School represented by Ms. Leilani Sabugo, and to the CLSU University Library which was received by Ms. Camia Lasig and Dr. Jay C. Santos, CASS Dean. A book signing then took place giving those who purchased the book the opportunity to have a moment with and have their books signed by Prof. Yapo while selected faculty and students from the Department of English and Humanities were reading excerpts from his book. Attendees of the event include Dr. Renato G. Reyes, VP for Academic Affairs, Ms. Laarnie Mandiwa from PhilRice, local artist Elito Circa also known as ‘Amang Pintor’, and more than 80 college and high school students.

CVSM Dominates National Mikrobyong Mikrobyo Quiz Contest at UPLB

The College of Veterinary Science and Medicine (CVSM) once again proved it is a powerhouse in veterinary education by bagging the championship title in the recently concluded 2nd National Mikrobyong Mikrobyo Quiz Contest held on March 21, 2026, at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, Laguna. Outshining the 17 competing teams, CLSU dominated the leaderboards, with both of its representative teams finishing in the top five. The first team of CLSU, composed of Allen Dave B. Serrano, Hannah Angela P. Lacsina, and Anne J. Muncal, was declared the champions. In contrast, the team of Verna Antoinette P. Luis, Lance Josef E. Landagan, and Renato S. Alombro, Jr. clinched the 4th Place. Both teams were also recognized as Best in Microbiology for their performances in the said competition. The teams were coached by the dedicated faculty members of the college such as Dr. Joyce Abigail F. Soriano and Dr. Joseph Adrian T. Dela Cruz. The event was organized by the University of the Philippines Society for the Advancement of Veterinary Education and Research (UP SAVER).

BSIT Students Secure Multiple Awards at IRCITE 2026

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) students under the College of Engineering (CEn) showcased their brilliance and creativity as they won multiple awards during the International Research Conference on Information Technology Education (IRCITE) 2026, held on March 19, 2026, at Bulacan State University in Malolos City, Bulacan. Bringing together delegates from various State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) across the region, IRCITE 2026 served as a dynamic platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation in the field of information technology. The CLSU team secured 1st Runner-Up in AI Video Content Creation, represented by Angelo James Soria and Damianne Alistair Pakkal; 2nd Runner-Up in Technical Writing, achieved by Shaira Matta; and 1st Runner-Up in Call of Duty: Battle Royale, represented by Marionne Jadde Pascual, Shandenz Cedric Felipe, Aaron John De Mesa, and Lance Andre Lazo. Additional commendations were earned by Marc Nelson Driza, who placed 4th in the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) category and qualified for the Microsoft Office Specialist Excel Associate Certification. Meanwhile, Jenard Daquiz and Maruine Jei Paguio were recognized as Top 5 finalists in the AI Image Content Creation competition. Beyond competition, the experience provided valuable exposure to current industry practices and emerging technologies. Students were able to deepen their understanding of artificial intelligence while strengthening essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and innovation—further bridging the gap between academic learning and practical application.

CLSU Hybrid Rice Harvest Festival Showcases Innovation, High-Yielding Varieties

The Central Luzon State University (CLSU) through the University Business Affairs Program (UBAP) gathered farmers, students, and agricultural partners for the Hybrid Rice Harvest Festival held today, March 18, at the field demonstration site and Multi-purpose Gymnasium (MPG). The Festival served as a strategic bridge between the academe and the farming community, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange. Led by Dr. Karenina B. Romualdo, Vice President for Business Affairs, and Assoc. Prof. Jaypee Estigoy, Director for Crop Production, alongside Dr. Ace Mugssy Agustin and Mr. Francis Mina as rice module project managers, the event highlighted high-performing hybrid rice varieties for local farmers and students. It showcased the results of this year’s competitive planting models, providing data-driven insights and practical benchmarks to guide local growers in optimizing productivity and decision-making. In his message, University President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella reaffirmed CLSU’s steadfast commitment to spearheading agricultural advancement through research and innovation. Strengthening this vision, the program featured a lineup of agricultural leaders who shared regional insights, including Dr. Joice San Andres, Director for Animal Production, representing VP Romualdo, Mr. Christian Ramos, Regional SEED Coordinator, DA-RFO III, Mr. Leonel Parugrug, City Agricultural Office of Muñoz, and Dr. Jovita B. Agliam from the Provincial Agriculture Office. The derby was supported by the attendance and participation of top seed companies and agricultural research institutions.
