RESEARCH OFFICE RECEIVES MULTI-TILLING MACHINE; TARGETS HIGHER SOYBEAN QUALITY AND YIELD

The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office III (DA RFOIII) donated to the CLSU Research Office a multi-tilling machine/cultivator worth Php 184,975.00 last December.          It will be used by the Research Office in its legumes and high value crops experiment and production areas.          According to Dr. Ma Excelsis M. Orden, Research Director, the donation was covered by a memorandum of agreement signed by DA RFOIII Regional Executive Director Roy M. Abaya, and LCSU President Tereso A. Abella. It is premised on the relevant functions of both parties to support the high value crops development program of the government, and to promote among researchers the “attainment of sustainable productivity and profitable farming”.          Dr. Orden also said that the machine was requested in connection with the Office’s target to produce higher quality seeds of soybean and other crops.          The Research Office is the producer and supplier of quality soybean seeds (known as CLSOY) in the region.          The DA RFOIII, on the other hand, implements soybean program in the region and supports farmers by providing them quality CLSOY seeds. Over the years, however, the Research Office lacks seeds to meet its own requirement as well as that of the DA RFO III due to lack of farm equipment.          “The multipurpose cultivator hopes to solve this problem so that the two agencies can respond further to the soybean industry’s need”, Dr. Orden said.          The donation was made possible with the support of the Head of the High Value Crops Program of DA RFOIII, Mr. Fenando Lorenzo, a LCSU alumnus (BS Agriculture 1980).          Dr. Oden, in her acknowledgment letter to the donor, expressed appreciation and recognition of the importance of the machine to facilitate improvement in the yields from agricultural crops. “With this, we will be able to respond better to farmers’ needs for quality soybean seeds”, she said.

CLSU Secures Research Approval from DOST-PCIEERD, Joins Grand MOA Signing

The Central Luzon State University (CLSU) joined the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) Grand Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) last December 11, 2025, at the DTI-PTTC Hall B in Pasay City, Manila after one of its research proposals was approved amounting to almost four million pesos. Dr. Jeannie-Rose G. Fabula of the Crops and Resources Research and Development Center (CRRDC), will serve as the project leader of the approved research titled “Catalysts of Change: Impact Assessment of DOST-PCIEERD’s Young Innovators Program (YIP) for Scientific Advancement and National Development.” The project, which will run from Janto December 2026, aims to evaluate the long-term impacts of the Young Innovators Program, a flagship initiative that supports young Filipino researchers in science, technology, and innovation. The findings will contribute to enhancing initiatives designed to nurture the country’s future innovators. A diverse team of faculty researchers, including Maria Celia M. Fernando, Jairus Jesse M. Tubal, Herald Kam G. Hernando, and Dr. Maria Excelsis M. Orden will be part of the said project. The MOA signing event was attended by DOST-PCIEERD officials and agency heads from various partner institutions. It also featured technical discussions on the commercialization of research and development through the Innovate PINAS program, as well as the launch of international partnerships with Spanish research agencies. Dr. Fabula was accompanied by Dr. Jonathan V. Fabula, who represented the university president, Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, during the said event. This involvement underscores CLSU’s commitment to research excellence and its essential role in fostering a strong and inclusive science and technology ecosystem for national development.
