Tilapia Ice Cream R&D Team Wins NSAARRD Best Paper Award

Dr. Dana G. Vera Cruz, the proponent of Tilapia Ice Cream won the Best R&D Paper Award under the development category of the National Symposium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (NSAARRD) awarded during the DOST-PCAARRD 51st Anniversary held last November 10, 2023 in Los Baños, Laguna. Their paper entitled "Upscale Production and Commercialization of Daerrys Tilapia Ice Cream and Cookies" focused on the journey of the internationally acclaimed tilapia ice cream and its partnership with the tilapia fisherfolks and carabao raisers in Nueva Ecija making them an inclusive enterprise. Dr. Vera Cruz also presented their contribution in terms of creating job opportunities and fostering international partnerships showing the potential and future of the commercialized tilapia ice cream. Dr. Vera Cruz led the research and development team composed of Dr. Pablo J. Rafael, Jr., Dr. Venus Q. Lagmay, Dr. Celyrah B. Castillo, Ms. Ervee P. Landingin, Ms. Pamela Denise V. De Ramos, Mr. Remarjay V. Neypes and former CLSU President Dr. Tereso A. Abella. The NSAARD award aims to encourage Filipino researchers to strive hard in achieving quality R&D ouputs, and therefore, package better technologies for countryside sustainable development. Meanwhile, the development category includes the use of innovative modality or strategy in determining end-users; response to the introduction of package of mature and improved technologies and in providing researchers and technology transfer agents with feedback to better technology dissemination, utilization, and adoption.

CLSU Holds Blessing for Farmers’ Training Hostel

Central Luzon State University (CLSU) officially inaugurated the Farmers’ Training Hostel during a blessing ceremony held on November 20, 2024. The blessing was led by Fr. Rufo Ramil Cruz, CLSU Chaplain, joined by Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, University President, Dr. Ariel G. Mactal, Vice President for Administration, Dr. RavelinaR. Velasco, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Karenina B. Romualdo, Vice President for University Business Affairs, Dr. Ma. Elizabeth C. Leoveras, Head of Auxiliary Services alongside other esteemed members of the Administrative Council. The newly renovated Farmers’ Training Hostel is a two-story building with 24 rooms, designed to accommodate visitors and guests, particularly those attending stay-in training programs. The hostel is located behind the CEC Hostel and adjacent to the R&E Cafeteria.

In the latest edition of the AppliedHE Public and Private University rankings, Central Luzon State University (CLSU) has reaffirmed its strong global standing by securing the 69th position in ASEAN Region and the 4th rank among public universities in the Philippines. CLSU has been recognized for its high ratings in key areas, including Employability, Quality of Teaching and Learning, Cutting-Edge Research, Community Engagement, Internationalization, and Institutional Reputation. This accomplishment underscores CLSU's unwavering commitment to academic excellence and community development. The recent typhoon brought challenges to Central Luzon State University, leaving visible signs of its impact across the campus.
