The University Science High School (USHS) hailed 65 Junior High School (JHS) Completers and 70 graduates of Senior High School (SHS) during the 46th Annual Recognition and Promotion, 9th Completion Ceremonies & 6th Senior High School Graduation Rites held at the University Auditorium guided by the theme “Filipino Youth: Building a Stronger Future for a New Philippines” on June 11, 2024.
Jared Clarence Hilario of Grade 12 – Navigators, with his outstanding achievements was named the class valedictorian leading the 70 graduates including the 15 students who received With High Honors, and 51 With Honors distinctions. Meanwhile, among the 65 JHS completers, 14 with high honors and 29 with honors were also recognized led by Lee Ralfie Perez form Grade 10 – Innovators, who achieved the highest-grade average.
Also, Dr. Edgar A. Orden, VP for Research and Extension who served as the thesis adviser of the USHS students, handed the certificates and cash incentives to the SHS group who worked on "The Development of a KAMALIG Interactive Map Software as Proof of Concept for Tourist Navigation" and the JHS group for their work on "Milkfish Bones as a Supplementary Ingredient in Barquillos" as awardees for Best Research on Innovation and Best Thesis, respectively.
Dr. Ravelina Velasco, Vice President for Academic Affairs and esteemed alumna of USHS, served as the Guest of Honor and Speaker. In her speech, she highlighted the impact of youth, specifically the graduating students, on the development and progress of the Philippines in her presentation entitled "Tomorrow’s Promise."
“This is a momentous occasion for you, a culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance, but also a beginning - a launch pad into your future,” said Dr. Velasco.
Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, University President, led the awarding of certificates and diplomas assisted by Dr. Velasco, Dr. Verjun J. Dilla, Head of the CLSU Laboratory for Teaching and Learning (CLTL), and Dr. Aileen G. De Guzman, In-charge of CLTL-USHS.
On the other hand, a heartfelt tribute was also accorded to Ghenard Fernandez, a SHS graduating student who recently met his untimely demise. The graduating class concluded the ceremony by singing a farewell song, a fitting tribute as they step into the next chapter of their academic journey.
