University Science High School (USHS) faculty and students attended and bagged awards during the 2023 National Organization of Science Teachers and Educators (NOSTE) International Research Conference, Training Workshops, and Biennial Convention with the theme “Science as a Tool for Teaching Numeracy and Literacy” held in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, from September 22 to 24, 2023.
Ms. Karen Jean C. Barcelita, USHS faculty won 1st place with her paper entitled “Recurring Symbols, Motifs, and Images in Literature as Projections of Unconscious Desires, Wounds, or Unresolved Conflicts: A Scientific Viewpoint of Literature in Understanding Human Unconsciousness.”
Meanwhile, Maren T. Tomas, Grade 12 student, clutched the 3rd Best Paper and 3rd Best Oral Presenter being the presenting author of her group’s paper, “Navigating Cultural Waters: Intercultural Competence and Experiences of SEA Teachers in Laboratory High School.”
On the other hand, Jared Clarence Hilario and Princess Stephanie B. Rayray, both Grade 12 students also joined as participants and presenting authors of their studies under the advisership of Asst. Prof. Joseph A. Villarama.
Other USHS faculty were also present in the event headed by Dr. Lexter R. Natividad, 2023 NOSTE Conference Convenor and Committee Chair, Dr. Remedios Z. Panuyas, and Dr. Aileen G. De Guzman as panelists.
Aiming to explore science as tool for teaching numeracy and literacy, the three-day international conference was attended by science teachers, educators, and students from all over the Philippines and is a partnership project of NOSTE, Inc. with Central Luzon State University, West Visayas State University, Bacolod City National High School, and STI West Negros University in collaboration with the Province of Negros Occidental, the City of Bacolod, Negros Residences, and Mambukal Resort.
