The extension project of College of Education entitled "AGRISIKAT! Sa AGRIKULTURA, SIKAT ka! A Career Advocacy for Grade 9 Students and Family Engagement on Agriculture and Fisheries" was awarded 2nd place during the 31st National Research Symposium (NRS) of the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) on September 20, 2019.
The research project was led by Dr. Regidor G. Gaboy, along with Maria Adrielle S. Estigoy, Emil F. Ubaldo, Ma. Ruby Hiyasmin M. Delos Santos, Vilma M. Salas, Milagros A. Santos, Dr. Michael C. Mabalay, Michael E. Mananghaya, Mark Gil M. Mecardo, Rogelito F. Sison, Keiven S. Encarnacion, and Fe. L. Porciuncula.
Heading off to the 31st NRS with the theme, “Gearing up the Agri - Fishery Sector through Holistic R&D towards Regenerative Development,” a total of 188 research papers were screened and 27 made it through, including the Agrisikat project, for presentation in the symposium proper.
The said project was categorized under the socioeconomics research and earned silver, a cash prize amounting to ₱75,000 and an additional research grant of ₱750,000 for the preparation of the proposal.
Among the other categories in this year's NRS are basic/upstream research; applied research; technology generation/information generation; technology adaptation/technology verification; development research; and organic agriculture research.
On August 8 to 9, the project also won the Best Paper Award in the CLSU In-House Review of Completed and On-Going R & D Projects, under the development category, and received PHP15,000 cash prize.
Moreover, the paper qualified for the Regional Symposium on Research and Development Highlights held on September 27 at Pampanga State Agricultural University where it bagged 3rd place and a PHP5,000 cash prize.
