CF Faculty Attends Training on Halal Industry Program in Malaysia

Two faculty members from the College of Fisheries attended the International Research Knowledge on Halal Industry Program organized by the University Putra Malaysia (UPM) and the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) held in Putrajaya, Malaysia, from September 3 to 16, 2023.   Mr. Aries Paul D. Padron and Ms. Lara Millen S. Pengson, both from the Department of Aquatic Post-harvest, specifically set out on a knowledge journey funded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), via the Leveling-Up Philippine Higher Education Institutions in Agriculture, Fisheries, and Natural Resources (LevelUPHEI-AFAR) program.   The Halal Industry Program aims to bridge the knowledge gap by equipping scholars and the academe with the expertise needed to contribute and boost the halal industry's potential. The two-week program included 10 comprehensive lectures designed to provide an in-depth understanding of various aspects of the halal industry, ranging from certification processes to market dynamics.   The successful completion and participation of CF faculty in the program underscores the dedication to internationalization and to improving educational and research partnerships in Southeast Asia.

CLSU Climbs in SDG Metrics, Holds Ground in the THE Impact Rankings

Central Luzon State University (CLSU) continues to demonstrate significant momentum in its Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) initiatives, having secured its position as one of the leading universities globally, with an overall ranking of 801-1000 out of 2,526 institutions in the recently published Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025. Through the diligent efforts of the CLSU community, the university showed exceptional progress in several critical areas, securing a 101-200 ranking for SDG 14: Life Below Water, and a 201-300 ranking for SDG 15: Life on Land. CLSU also earned a strong 301-400 ranking for SDG 2: Zero Hunger and a 401-600 ranking for SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Furthermore, CLSU achieved commendable rankings of 401-600 for SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 5: Gender Equality, SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, and SDG 13: Climate Action. The university also achieved a 601-800 ranking for SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. University President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, extended his heartfelt gratitude to the faculty and staff, recognizing their invaluable initiatives and actions in driving these successes. The Central Luzon State University (CLSU), through its University Business Affairs Program (UBAP) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture Region III (DA-RFO III), hosted an event dubbed as "PalaySakaMunidad: A Hybrid Rice Derby" bringing together leading seed companies and institutions aimed at advancing hybrid rice technology for the wet season held on June 17, 2025. Dr. Karenina B. Romualdo, Vice President for Business Affairs, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all the partner companies, emphasizing the importance of such collaborative initiatives in driving agricultural progress and assisting farmers in the region to have a bountiful harvest even in the wet season. Further reinforcing the spirit of collaboration, Dr. Aldrin E. Badua, representing Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, reiterated that the university is open for future partnerships, specifically in bringing technology to local communities and farmers. The event garnered strong support from various individuals from DA-attached agencies with key figures delivering messages of encouragement and support. Dr. Jovita B. Agliam, Provincial Agriculturist, Ms. Analou S. Morelos, NE Program Coordinator for DA-RFO III, and Mr. Leonel Parugrug, OIC City Agriculturist, all expressed their full backing for the derby. Their presence highlighted the unified effort across different levels of government to promote sustainable and productive agricultural practices. Moreover, during the event, Mr. Christian Ramos, DA-RFO III Regional Seed Coordinator, explained the criteria and methodology for the Derby. The event culminated in a symbolic ceremonial transplanting of different hybrid rice varieties within the CLSU vicinity. This hands-on demonstration symbolized the collective hope for a bountiful wet season harvest, driven by superior hybrid rice varieties and collaborative efforts. Participating companies and institutions that showcased their hybrid rice varieties were Seed Works, Enviro Scope Synergy Inc., Green & Grow Technologies Inc., BioSeed, Leads Agri, SL Agritech Corporation, Bayer Crop Science, Syngenta, Aljay Agro Industrial Solutions Inc., ProBagAgri Seed Corporation, and the Philippine Rice Research Institute. #SievingForExcellence

CLSU Partners with Simplicio Gamboa Sr. Foundation Inc. for Enhanced Student Support

The Central Luzon State University (CLSU), through its Office of Student Affairs (OSA), officially inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Simplicio Gamboa Sr. Foundation Inc. (SGFSI) aimed at providing valuable support and opportunities for CLSU students held today June 17. The MOA was led by Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, University President, and Dr. Irene G. Bustos, OSA Dean, and Mr. Edward Joseph M. Vitug, President of SGFSI, and witnessed by Ms. Juliet Mendoza of SGFSI. As stated in the MOA, CLSU through its OSA, will pre-screen applicants following the scholarship guidelines. The institution will also monitor and report the academic standing of the grantees to ensure continued eligibility and transparency. Dr. Abella expressed his gratitude for the trust and support extended by the Foundation, stating that the partnership reflects the University’s mission of extending holistic education to those who need it most. He emphasized that scholarship initiatives are vital in enabling capable students to overcome financial barriers and reach their full potential. Meanwhile, Mr. Vitug expressed confidence in CLSU’s capability to nurture scholars into future leaders in their respective fields. He shared that the Foundation remains committed to helping young Filipinos achieve their dreams through sustained and meaningful educational support.
