The College of Fisheries – Central Luzon State University (CF-CLSU) through their students enrolled in the undergraduate seminar (FISH 4398) has spearheaded a webinar entitled "Prawnsome: General Aquaculture Practices and Entrepreneurial Opportunities on Rearing Giant Freshwater Prawn (Ulang)" last May 7, 2022, via Zoom and broadcasted live at the CF Student Government Facebook page.    This webinar is in support of the educational program of SDG 14 (Life Below Water) led by Dr. Ravelina R. Velasco, the College Dean and SDG 14 Chair. In her welcome message, she said that the CF is one of the sources of knowledge that is deemed important for professional growth and advancement. She also highlighted that knowledge should be accessible to everyone.   The webinar has tackled the general aquaculture practices on rearing giant freshwater prawns as an excellent and alternative aquaculture commodity. The resource speaker, Ms. Maritess O. Pablo, Aquaculturist I, and technical staff on giant freshwater prawn (Macrabrachium rosenbergii) hatchery of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources – National Freshwater Fisheries Technology Center in Science City Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, has shared her expertise on sustainable, environmental-friendly and economical rearing of freshwater prawn. These are the key points of her lecture: (1) the rearing of giant freshwater prawns does not inflict consequential disruption to biodiversity; (2) it is profitable in terms of long-term expectation and probability; and (3) it contributes to the welfare of the community specifically on the operators, fisherfolks, producers, and consumers.   The subject FISH 4398 under the mentorship of Dr. Lorenz J. Fajardo aims to train students in organizing seminars and trainings that are relevant to the fisheries and aquaculture industry.
