Stratcom | SCO

The Central Luzon State University (CLSU) hosted today, April 22, the event dubbed as the Hybrid Rice Derby: Farmers' Field Day held at the rice production area and experiment field managed by the University Business Affairs Program. This event, attended by farmers, technicians, and seed growers from Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan, was organized by the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 3 (DA-RFO3) in collaboration with the Nueva Ecija Office of the Provincial Agriculturist. The Hybrid Rice Derby featured ten (10) seed companies showcasing their best performing hybrid seeds which aims to provide better harvest and income for the farmers. This way, farmers will get to be familiarized with the hybrid rice provided to them by the DA and they will be able to enjoy the hybrid in subsequent crops. Dr. Edgar A. Orden, CLSU President, commended the seed companies, technicians, and farmers for the success of the event and expressed his gratitude to DA-RFO3 headed by Dir. Crispulo G. Bautista, Jr. and Mr. Bernardo Valdez, NE Provincial Agriculturist, for considering CLSU as its demonstration site and for the continuous partnership in advancing the agriculture sector. "With the success of this 2-year program, we are looking forward to more collaborations and for CLSU to be an instrument in realizing the battle cry of the DA “Masagang Ani at Malaking Kita” that will directly benefit the lives of our beloved farmers," President Orden said. Meanwhile, Mr. Victorino Bestante, a rice farmer from Talavera, Nueva Ecija expressed his appreciation for the invitation to attend the said program. “Andito ako para makita ang pagkakaiba iba ng mga barayti ng palay at ang epekto nito sa ani. Inimbitahan kami dito para makita ang mga hybrid barayti sa mismong bukid kasi kapag nagsasaka ka makikibalita ka din ng mga magagandang barayti na pwede mong itanim sa iyong bukid” The event, which is in its second year of implementation, is a response to the government's advocacy for achieving food security and sufficiency.
