CLSU, DOST-PCAARRD Launch Youth Science Program for PSHS Students

The University, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), has launched the Youth Science Program in the Regions (Luzon) participated by 25 Senior High School Students from the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) which will run for June 23 to July 11, 2025. During the opening ceremony, CLSU President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella welcomed the delegates warmly and expressed his hope that their time at the University would be a significant learning experience. Dr. Melanie Tolentino, College of Arts and Social Sciences faculty member and Center for Central Luzon Studies Head, also conveyed her gratitude to DOST-PCAARRD for their crucial support, highlighting that CLSU is proud to host this pioneering batch of the youth science program. Meanwhile, Ms. Annette Tobias, project leader from DOST-PCAARRD, provided a brief overview of the services and opportunities offered by their institution. The program is designed to provide students with hands-on activities and direct participation in various Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources (AANR) engagements across CLSU's research centers. Beyond practical experience, the participants will also benefit from the lectures and mentoring sessions delivered by CLSU scientists, alongside other science and technology activities. This immersion aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for AANR research and development among the next generation of scientists.

COS Faculty Researcher and Environmental Advocate Concludes Prestigious Fulbright Humphrey Fellowship

Dr. Gella Patria L. Abella, a prolific faculty researcher from the College of Science and Institute for Climate Change and Environmental Management, has completed the highly esteemed 10-month Fulbright Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program at the University of California, Davis, USA. Driven by her profound dedication to environmental management, Dr. Abella significantly advanced her expertise in Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Policy during her fellowship. As a leading figure in climate action within CLSU, her participation in this program will undoubtedly strengthen the University's initiatives in these critical areas. CASS Dean, CCLS Head Represent CLSU in Collaborative Meetings and Lectures at Asian Studies Confab in Nepal

To further formalize the Memorandum of Understanding between Central Luzon State University (CLSU) and Gandaki University signed in 2022, Dr. Jay C. Santos, College of Arts and Social Sciences Dean, together with Dr. Melanie P. Tolentino, Center for Central Luzon Studies (CCLS) Head joined the series of lectures, collaborative meetings, and academic engagements during the 2025 Association for Asian Studies (AAS)-in-Asia Conference held in Kathmandu, Nepal from May 23 to June 5, 2025. During the event, Dr. Tolentino facilitated and chaired a roundtable discussion for the Inter-Area/Border Crossing category titled Mobility, Marginality, and Modernity in a Demographically Changing Asia. Dr. Santos and two other international lecturers, Dr. Yoshihide Obasyashi from Hokkaido University (HU) and Dr. Kailash Timilsina from Gandaki University (GU), served as discussants. In addition to participating in the AAS-in-Asia Conference, Dr. Santos, an expert in psychology, also delivered a special lecture on Sports Psychology and Management to faculty and students at GU. The visit also fostered crucial collaborative discussions between Dr. Tolentino, Dr. Santos, and their counterparts from GU and HU. The discussion led to the development of two proposed research topic outlines, an initial draft of a tri-country collaborative project, and the initiation of a joint manuscript. Furthermore, both CLSU and GU enthusiastically explored and expressed keen interest in formalizing student exchange initiatives shortly, promising a deeper academic partnership.
