The Central Luzon State University formally signed an agreement with the University of Liverpool (UoL), United Kingdom, to offer Dual/Double Degree, PhD in Food Security Systems by Research come August 2018 during the UK-PH Now Launching Fair held on February 16 at Shangrila, Makati.
CLSU is one of the 10 selected Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the country to complete the first set of Philippine Universities to implement the Joint Development Niche Programme (JDNP), a transnational education (TNE) initiative embarked by the British Council and the Commission on Higher Education which started in 2016.
“Gone are the days when you needed to be rich to gain a qualification for a foreign university, ” said Dr. Nigel Baud, Deputy British Ambassador to the Philippines.
The 3 to 4 - year doctoral program offers research projects in a wide range of topics focusing on sustainable food production, resilient supply chains, and improved consumption and health.
PhD by research does not include core courses, and students undertake research activities culminating in writing their dissertation.
“The offering of the program will further strengthen our efforts towards internationalization. It is beneficial in achieving the development plan of the Philippine Government, the Ambisyon Natin 2040, which envisions to have a strongly-rooted (may tatag), comfortable (maginhawa) and secured (panatag) life for all Filipinos, ” said Dr. Tereso A. Abella, CLSU President.
