CLSU, Youmanitatian Int’l Explore Crayfish Research and Production

The Central Luzon State University (CLSU) through its Freshwater Aquaculture Center (FAC), in partnership with Youmanitarian International through its farm member, Sesep's Farm—the largest crayfish hatchery in the Philippines, has initiated research focusing on the culture and propagation of the Australian Redclaw Crayfish (Cherax quadricarinatus). The first roundtable discussion was conducted on March 18, 2025, at the FAC Accreditation Room as a follow-up to the existing Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the two parties on joint research and publication initiatives. The event brought together personnel from both CLSU and Youmanitarian International, including Dr. Emmanuel Vera-Cruz, Vice President for Research and Extension; Dr. Karl Marx Quiazon, FAC Director; Dr. Rea Mae Templonuevo, Ms. Julieta Holasca, Mr. Aries Paul Padron; Assoc. Prof. Ar-Jay Aquino, Mr. Clarence Luther S. Bulanadi, Youmanitarian International Founder and Executive Director, and Mr. Joseph “SESEP” Miranda, Sesep Farm Founder and Owner. Also in attendance was Dr. Tereso A. Abella, former CLSU President and current Adviser of Youmanitarian International. This initiative will explore optimal farming techniques under Philippine conditions, assess environmental impacts, and determine economic viability to benefit local farmers and aquaculture entrepreneurs. It also aims to contribute valuable scientific insights into the interactions between Australian Redclaw Crayfish populations and rice field environments, particularly about their potential ecological and agricultural implications. University President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella showed full support for the said initiative and recognized its potential to advance aquaculture technology, providing sustainable solutions for integrating crayfish culture into Philippine agricultural systems. To support the initiative, Sesep’s Farm committed to providing 20,000 crayfish for research purposes. Additionally, further studies and trials are scheduled in the coming months to refine methodologies and unlock the full potential of crayfish farming in the country. The collaboration between CLSU and Youmanitarian International indeed underscores their shared commitment to scientific research and sustainable agricultural development.

CLSU’s MRF is Now Fully Operational

The Central Luzon State University (CLSU) Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) has been fully operational since April 2025. Designed to manage both residual and recyclable waste generated within the university, the facility reflects CLSU’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable campus practices. Following the recent partnership with the ASKI Multipurpose Cooperative (AMPC), waste haulers from the cooperative conducted a collection of segregated recyclable materials at the MRF on May 28, 2025. This initiative was spearheaded by faculty and staff members from the Institute for Climate Change and Environmental Management (ICCEM), led by their head, Dr. Shirly C. Serrano, together with the Physical Plant and Site Development Services (PPSDS). The collection yielded a total of 959 kilograms of recyclable waste, with papers, particularly cardboard, comprising the largest portion at 705 kilograms, accounting for 73.5% of the total, followed by PET bottles at 247 kilograms, or 25.8%. This successful initial effort highlights the effectiveness of the MRF and demonstrates the collaborative commitment of the CLSU community and its partners to promote responsible waste management practices. #SievingForExcellence #GoingGreen

CLSU Earns 4 New Program Compliance Certificates from CHED

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has awarded Central Luzon State University (CLSU) four new Certificates of Program Compliance (COPC) for fully adhering to CHED's rigorous standards, policies, and guidelines, ensuring the quality and integrity of its academic programs. The programs that have earned this certification include the Master of Arts in English Language Studies, the Master of Science in Development Communication, and the Doctor of Philosophy in Development Communication, offered by the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), as well as the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management, offered by the College of Home Science and Industry (CHSI). This achievement underscores the university's unwavering commitment to the relentless pursuit of quality and excellence, thereby fostering continuous improvement across all curricular programs. #SievingForExcellence

CLSU Convenes DC-SUC III and CIRPS Meeting with CHED

University President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella led the Joint Executive and Technical Staff Meeting of the Development Council of State Universities and Colleges Region III – Center for Inter-Institutional Research and Policy Studies (DC-SUC III/CIRPS) in Playa Azul, Baler, Aurora, last May 20, 2025. Also present were Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner Desiderio R. Apag III, CHED Region III Director Lora L. Yusi, other SUC III Presidents, and their respective CIRPS technical staff. As the current chair of DC-SUC III, which is the equivalent of the PASUC regional association in Central Luzon, President Abella presided over the meeting. During this gathering, the presidents discussed several key topics, including proposed international education summits, professional development programs for member institutions, international quality assurance for curricular programs, and the upcoming SUC Fair 2025 which will be spearheaded by Region 3 SUCs. In support of these initiatives, Director Yusi pledged the support of CHED in terms of funding and logistical support to these activities while Commissioner Apag lauded the SUCs in the region for performing very well and for having a collaborative relationship among the institutions. Prior the meeting, Dr. Abella attended the turnover ceremony of the Culture and Arts Association of State Universities and Colleges in the region. He then proceeded to the opening of the State Colleges and Universities Faculty Association of Region III (SCUFAR) Regional Games, hosted by Aurora State College of Technology.
