CLSU, ASCOT, and BPI Ink MOA for Mushroom R&D Collaboration

In a landmark initiative to strengthen the mushroom industry in the Philippines, the Central Luzon State University (CLSU), Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT), and the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on mushroom research, development, and training on June 18, 2025 at the Bureau of Plant Industry, Malate, Manila City. The MOA was signed in the presence of key government and institutional leaders, including Asec. Philip C. Young, Assistant Secretary and Special Assistant for Export Development, and Dr. Germinigilda A. Gabertan, BPI Assistant Director for Research, Development, and Production Support Services. Representing the signatory institutions were Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, CLSU President; Dr. Rich Milton Dulay, CLSU Center for Tropical Mushroom Research and Development (CTMRD) Head; and Dr. Oscar Barawid, ASCOT Vice President for Administration and Finance. This collaborative agreement underscores the three institutions' commitment to boosting mushroom R&D, enhancing production systems, and building the capacities of farmers and growers through comprehensive training programs. The MOA signing served as a major highlight of the Mushroom Stakeholders' Forum, also held on the same day, which brought together mushroom growers and industry players from various regions across the country. The forum provided a platform for knowledge sharing, innovation showcase, and the establishment of networks to further promote the growth of the mushroom sector as a sustainable livelihood and agribusiness opportunity. This multi-sectoral partnership is expected to play a crucial role in shaping a resilient and competitive mushroom industry aligned with the country's agricultural modernization and export development goals.

CLSU Climbs in SDG Metrics, Holds Ground in the THE Impact Rankings

Central Luzon State University (CLSU) continues to demonstrate significant momentum in its Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) initiatives, having secured its position as one of the leading universities globally, with an overall ranking of 801-1000 out of 2,526 institutions in the recently published Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025. Through the diligent efforts of the CLSU community, the university showed exceptional progress in several critical areas, securing a 101-200 ranking for SDG 14: Life Below Water, and a 201-300 ranking for SDG 15: Life on Land. CLSU also earned a strong 301-400 ranking for SDG 2: Zero Hunger and a 401-600 ranking for SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Furthermore, CLSU achieved commendable rankings of 401-600 for SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 5: Gender Equality, SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, and SDG 13: Climate Action. The university also achieved a 601-800 ranking for SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. University President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, extended his heartfelt gratitude to the faculty and staff, recognizing their invaluable initiatives and actions in driving these successes. These results demonstrate the university’s commitment to integrating sustainable practices and research into its core mission, significantly contributing to global efforts towards a more sustainable and equitable society. #SievingForExcellence
