KAPAG MAY ITINANIM, MAY AANIHIN (WHEN YOU PLANT, YOU WILL HARVEST)

Maria Adrielle S. Estigoy | PMO

A famous proverb or saying among Filipinos has found its literal sense this pandemic as the government through the Department of Agriculture encourages everyjuan to take part in their Plant, Plant, Plant Program. This holds true to the AGRISIKAT team as each of them continues to promote and embrace agriculture and fisheries in their own innovative ways. The team which is composed of multi-varied professionals of different specializations such as educators, communication specialist, IT specialist, community development worker, social scientist, and guidance counsellors choose to engage themselves in agrifisheries amidst the CoViD-19 pandemic. “It is a heed to the call of our Agriculture Secretary, Dr. William Dar to plant in our own backyards so we can have food security in our own homes, ” said Dr. Regidor Gaboy, Project Leader of AGRISIKAT and Dean of the CLSU College of Education. He also emphasized that as part of an advocacy promoting the importance of agrifisheries, they should also ‘walk the talk. ’ In view of the current CoViD-19 pandemic, agriculture is recognized as a very important industry to boost the economy as well as a key player in the individual ‘survival’. With this, the AGRISIKAT team will continue to push forward its key messages - Sa Agrikultura, may kita ka, may ani ka, at may maibabahagi ka, so the youth of today will eventually learn to embrace agrifisheries as a course or profession and possibly engage in it. Also, the team will continue to promote the programs of the government to attract the young, and also to provide technical assistance to anyone interested to take up agrifisheries courses especially those in Central Luzon.
