Earlier this morning, the DZRH Special on Saturday Radio Program, hosted by Senior Undersecretary Cesar Chavez of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) and Sen.Francis Tolentino, interviewed Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, Central Luzon State University President together with Dr. Flordeliza Bordey, Deputy Executive Director of DA-PhilRice, highlighting the state of agriculture in the country and the role of higher education institutions (HEIs) in ensuring food security.
During the interview, Pres. Abella shared the technologies generated by CLSU faculty and staff researchers. He further explained the concept of the KAMALIG S&T Agritourism Site, which the delegates of the Food Security Cluster Communications Workshop composed of the PCO officials and staff, Media Practitioners, and Government Information Officers had recently visited.
He also highlighted CLSU's commitment to addressing food security issues and promoting Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: Zero Hunger.
Pres. Abella further emphasized that the success of CLSU in generating agricultural technologies is possible through the harmonious relationship the university has with its neighboring R&D institutions like the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech), and the Philippine Carabao Center(PCC).
In terms of disseminating CLSU technologies, he underscored the establishment of the Technology Village Program, a community that will serve as a technology hub where farmers and fisherfolks are provided with access to technologies for the improvement of their economic livelihoods.
“Sa techno village nandyan po ang ibat ibang teknolohiya para sa iba’t ibang commodities, na kung saan pwede pong malinang ang isang magsasaka hindi lamang sa pagpapalay, pagkatapos po ng pagpapalay maari itong maging supplmental income para sa pamilya.” Pres. Abella said.
The interview, lasting approximately 35 minutes, was made possible through the invitation extended by USec Chavez.
