May. 26, 2022

Erwin M. Valiente & Randy L. Kwan | SCO

The last batch of harvested Special Purpose Rice (CLS2) for this cropping season was delivered to the partner-buyer in Gapan City on May 11, 2022. The dried CLS2 rice variety was sold at P25.00/kg which is competitively higher than the prevailing buying price on the common variety of dried palay bought at P17.00/kg. This formed part of the implementation of the Technology Village Development Program (TVDP), an extension modality of Central Luzon State University (CLSU) through the University Extension Center (UEC). The farmer-partners in the Science City of Muñoz harvested 46.60 cavans of rice from the production area of 3,380 square meters. On the other hand, the farmer-partners in Talavera harvested 67.40 cavans from the production area of 7,200 square meters. This gave the farmers a gross income of Php 58,970.00 and Php 82,706.30 in Science City of Muñoz and Talavera, respectively. The market intervention assured a guaranteed price that will lead to 32% more income for farmers. In addition, the dry season cropping for CLS2 proved to be very productive.
