University of Georgia Professor Delivers a Lecture to CAg Faculty and Staff

Dr. Robert Kemerait Jr., a Plant Pathology professor from the University of Georgia, USA, visited the College of Agriculture (CAg) on June 29, 2022, to deliver a lecture about the “Importance of Disease and Nematode Management in These Very Uncertain Times”. It was attended by the CAg faculty, while students joined via Zoom. The event was spearheaded by the Department of Crop Protection headed by Prof. Celynne O. Padilla. Dr. Kemerait emphasized the effects of climate change which immensely affects crop productivity. He also said that climate change allows more spread of plant pathogens.  “We cannot change the uncertainties of the climate but we can anticipate to protect crops for a higher yield,” Dr. Kemerait said during his lecture. The lecture posed a big challenge to the College to produce possible solutions to the problems regarding plant pathogens that will help in achieving the sustainable development goals, particularly the zero hunger. Moreover, Dr. Kemerait greatly expressed his interest in a possible collaboration and extension work with Central Luzon State University.

AACCUP Visits Five CLSU Curricular Programs for Level I Accreditation

The Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc. is set to evaluate five academic programs of Central Luzon State University (CLSU) for Level I accreditation from May 27-31, 2024. A total of 12 esteemed accreditors from various universities will evaluate the following programs: Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship and Master in Business Administration offered by the College of Business and Accountancy; Bachelor of Science in Textile and Fashion Technology under the College of Home Science and Industry; the Doctor of Philosophy in Agricultural Entomology, and Doctor of Philosophy in Soil Science offered by the College of Agriculture.

CLSU conducts capacity building to OFW Federation of Nueva Ecija Members

The CLSU through its University Gender and Development Office (UGADO) and Office of Student Affairs (OSA) led a 2-day conference with the members of the OFW Family Circle Federation of Nueva Ecija (OFCFNE) last May 16-17, 2024. The conference with the theme ‘CLSU Kaagapay ng mga Novo Ecijanong OFW sa Buhay, Espasyo, Sarili at Tunguhin,’ provided several lectures on mental health, unequal opportunities, financial illiteracy, insufficient business knowledge, and discrimination. During the first day, common issues and concerns faced by overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were addressed. The Executive Director of the Center for Migrant Advocacy, Ellene A. Sana, gave a lecture on "Transforming the Narrative: Discrimination in the OFW Sector," while Prof. Janet O. Saturno, Director of the UGADO, discussed "Breaking Gender Barriers: Challenges Faced by OFWs." On the second day, OFWs gained insights and knowledge about business and livelihood opportunities from Dr. Carolyn P. Gonzales-Marzan, from the College of Business and Accountancy, who presented on "Exploring Opportunities: Turning Overseas Filipino Workers into Overseas Filipino Investors." Dr. Irene G. Bustos, Dean of the Office of Student Affairs, led the discussion on "Seeking Balance: Life of an OFW Family," addressing mental health issues. The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office 3 (OWWA RWO 3) Regional Director Ma. Lourdes V. Reyes, expressed her immense pleasure and pride in witnessing the growth of the Federation and its new partnership and collaboration with CLSU, which will surely benefit the OFWs and their families. The conference was also attended by the Nueva Ecija Provincial PESO and the CLSU President Evaristo A. Abella represented by Vice Karenina B. Romualdo, Vice President for Business Affairs.

CLSU Experts Share Insights at the Sustainability Forum on Livestock and Aquaculture

Aside from showcasing products and technologies through exhibits, experts from Central Luzon State University (CLSU) also served as plenary speakers during the Sustainability Forum on Livestock and Aquaculture Philippines 2024 International Industry Expo held at the World Trade Center (WTC) on May 24, 2024. Dr. Edgar A. Orden, a small ruminant expert and current Vice President for Research and Extension delivered a keynote address highlighting CLSU's initiatives toward ensuring a food-secure future. These include the test kit for ASF, bacterial pathogens for Tilapia, and SFEED pellet feeds, among others. Additionally, Dr. Alvin T. Reyes from the College of Fisheries and Ms. Christine Helen Adriano from PCC at CLSU served as panelists in the forum discussion. Meanwhile, the Techno Village Program (TVP), an extension program of CLSU aimed at accelerating countryside development, garnered significant interest during the panel discussion, with several participants from Zambales and Sorsogon expressing their desire to be part of the program. Furthermore, farmer-partners from the TVP attended the event to explore the latest innovative technologies for livestock, ruminants, and aquaculture. Dr. Karenina Romualdo, Vice President for Business Affairs, also graced the event to oversee machinery that can be utilized in various Income-Generating Projects of the University. Faculty and staff from the University Extension Program Office were also present.
